The "today" Jesus was referring to was and is applicable in every way. But most importantly, He referred to "today" as being His day, as the time of salvation of all who are His. As Paul said, "I have been (past tense) crucified with Christ."

Where do you think paradise is located? Where do you think the thief is right now? When do you think he get there?

Jesus' statement was referring to all the "today"s of everyone born "but each one in his own order" (1 Corinthians 15:23). Which was accomplished during His day--"the day of the Lord."

Where do you think paradise is located? Where do you think the thief is right now? When do you think he get there?

In God...which as we all who are His were crucified and raise up with Christ--was in His day. Which is to say, all things are in Christ--those things from before the foundation of the world--and only made manifest in the world in His day and time, as we are in Him and Him in us--each in his own order (time). Every day is His day.
