it just is not in the bible that we are created in the image and likeness of God and rightly so - it was Adam that was created in the image and likeness of God[Gen 5:1&2] whilst we are created in the fallen image and likeness of Adam[Gen 5:3] which imho is not in the image and likeness of God - twinc

So this is basically solely your opinion that we are not the image bearers of God? Really? I was waiting for another believer that's worth his salt to show the contrary with scripture because its so elementary, so self-explanatory, but hell, why not me first.

What God said to Noah about who fallen man is:
(Genesis 9:4-7) "But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. {5} And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. {6} Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. {7} And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein."

(James 3:7-9) "For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: {8} But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. {9} Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God."

Similitude meaning man still has the likeness of God even in its fallen state.

it seems you are unwilling to grasp and accept it is not being said that man[Adam] was not created in the image and likeness of God, to which we will be restored - we are now like the broken pillars in Greece which still show forth the glory that once was Greece - twinc

 And your point in this post being what now? You claimed on no uncertain terms that we as fallen beings are not the image bearers of God and I corrected it with scripture stating on no uncertain terms the contrary. You don't have a problem with my belief, you have a problem with scripture, pure and simple.

Psalms 51:10 "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee".

2 Corinthians 5:16 "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new".

the old Adam is DEAD.

I agree, the fallen IMAGE is dead, that's why we're born again. we died with him in baptism, and rose with him in the newness of his life, his likeness. amen

The way I see it is that the word man is not referencing Adam but mankind.
"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion..." Gen. 1:26
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen. 1:27
I see 4 things that make us "in the image of God"
1) A trinity of being = Body, Soul, Spirit = 3 in 1
2) Freewill just like God
3) The ability to create. Not in the sense of bringing something into being from nothing but we have been given an imagination and creative ability that allows us to produce very beautiful paintings, sculptures, art work, crafts, etc. from zero to wonder and thus be creative like God.
4) We have been given a gift of eternity. This gift allows us to live on eternally with God or (based on #2) live on eternally without God.
The only difference with Adam is that he began as an innocent being in the garden before he fell and died spiritually. From that point on we are all like Adam (after the fall) born into this world dead because of sin.
Because Christ conquered death at the cross, we can exchange our death for His life.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen. 1:27

The obvious problem is God didn't make a bunch of men at that point, just one: Adam.

Gen 1:26-27 doesn't make much sense in that light until you skip to chapter 5.

This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; [2] Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

God made one spiritual being and that one being's name was Adam. Eve was still part of Adam at that point.
