I am dubious about anyone who uses a verse of scripture with a different meaning to justify that meaning in a verse that has an entirely different meaning. i.e. Acts 2 with 1 Cor 10:2.

However the word, 'baptize', and the question you raised concerning it's meaning was what was being considered, and baptism is found in each of the verses quoted: to show that baptism was not only related to 'water' as a medium; but also has a wider application to do with identification.

It is very meaningful to the Lord for us to follow him through the death and burial process.

Being baptised in water by immersion was commonplace in those days.
