The word means garden, where Jesus was buried that day, when Mary saw him the following morning, she thought it was the gardener.

Paradisethe greek Word Paradeisos meaning:1) among the Persians a grand enclosure or preserve, hunting ground, park, shady and well watered, in which wild animals, were kept for the hunt; it was enclosed by walls and furnished with towers for the hunters2) a garden, pleasure grounda) grove, park3) the part of Hades which was thought by the later Jews to be the abode of the souls of pious until the resurrection: but some understand this to be a heavenly paradise4) the upper regions of the heavens. According to the early church Fathers, the paradise in which our first parents dwelt before the fall still exists, neither on the earth or in the heavens, but above and beyond the world5) heaven

When the tanslaters wrote the Bible they put the commers, in where they thought, that wasn't always right, heres how it reads in the original. "I am telling you today, that you will be with me in paradise" first Jesus went to hell to preach to the lost souls. Then sometime later, maybe on the third day he went into paradise-or Abrahams bosom were the Old testament saints were.

Now, this is the kind of thing I think about and wonder about. I had thought about this very same thing a while back, but forgot about it. Remember, though, to a spirit (what Jesus became after dying), time and space are not limitations. When He appeared to the apostles, he left through the walls-no doors, yet He was able to eat and they could recognize Him and touch Him. He, nor the theif, were constrained by time once they died, so it's quite difficult to put a definite meaning to Christ's words-except to just believe it's possible.
