As does any other worker, a Christ teacher/lecturer/pastor deserves a fair 9-5 wage & costs covered for what they do but that's where it should stop.
If outside of their work a believer chooses to write articles, publish books etc, fine, do so & in this modern age let it be FEE-FREE available in downloadable form with the option for interested people to purchase physical materials on a COST ONLY basis, any more is simply GREED especially if you have already been blessed with a comfortable life.
ps, profits should only be channeled to spreading the word and to the needy but not to feather your own already fluffy nest.

I belong to a lay movement where many give talks and studies. I have serious doubts as to whether one paid pastor can maintain a congregation successfully. The NT pattern seemed to be that each congregation had a number of elders.

Many churches have elders, volunteers that provide their time, services, expertise & resources to the 'church' at no charge and that's how it should be.
For them I have plenty of regards.

“Giving something to someone who enlightens you”.

Used to be “simple”.
Ministers had no “home” perse’, they traveled about from community to community…
The people of the community…
Gave the ministers, lodging, food, clothing, tended their animal, a bit of money…

Today, ministering “is” broadly a conducted Business racket…on a scale of extravagance, promised pledges of present and future money, and very little one on one personal relationships….
And not always a focus on preaching Gods Word…but often focused on preaching the people feeling good about themselves.

That is fine and beneficial, but I question the practice to have one dominant paid Pastor or Reverend. I appreciate the fact that our meetings have a number of speakers from our own congregation and also we have the benefit of visiting speakers for both Sunday mornings and mid-week Bible Classes with the sum total of spiritual health and vitality. I doubt that one Pastor could supply sufficient talks and ideas to keep a congregation healthy.

Oh it does indeed say this lovely truth as all scripture is Truth .
And yet , oh yes there is a yet , a number so high that often quoate this
SIMPLY do so because they are cove tous and envy the coveteous ones they sit under .
For the example of the WHO we should be following , LET IT BE HE who inspired such scripture .
And for the perfect example of WHO this was and later would take the form of a man
I suggest we OPEN BIBLE and learn very very well for our own selves exactly what HE DID , HOW he was ,
and what he taught . That be JESUS folks . and later the inst ruction also that was left to us
by true men WHO REALLY DID follow Christ . Again that can easily be found in THE BIBLE .

Are you saying that a qualified, well-educated, disciplined, and trained pastor should not get paid by his congregation for his hard work?

The elders who are good leaders should be considered worthy of an ample honorarium, ​

especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says:​

Sounds to me like you have yet to hear someone who is gifted and can truly teach with depth and detail.
Many of them that teach Bible classes I would not want to pay much for as well.
Too many are play-acting as pastor-teachers.

Too many folks these days in modern "churches" are too ignorant of God's economy.
Because of this famine, they suffer. They are stunted spiritually. Consequently, they seem to think it is no mean task to prepare sound doctrinal preaching or teaching. (Preaching and teaching are NOT the same thing).

Keep in mind.

The Roman soldiers observing Jesus from under the cross refused to tear Jesus's special tunic to share because of its very high quality.
Jesus wore the best quality. Not luxury and excess. But, integrity of best quality. Not cheap stuff.
That is why the soldiers cast lots for his garment. They knew high quality when they saw it.

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ ​

and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest ​

in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions ​

and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and ​

who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. 1 Timothy 6:3-5​

I'm not a Pastor or a teacher.
If a full-time Pastor is not happy with a fair/humble wage from his congregation/church then stop being a pastor and go get a job that satisfies your greed.
Everyone else should offer their time & services to the Church free of charge

I don't think ANY of them will work for free after 8 hr/day.

So why demand a preacher do the same?
