My grandfather was Navy, my father is Army, and my cousins are Army; specifically, some are Ranger Recon, and others are enlisted or officers. I scored too high on the ASVAB I guess, to join the majority of my Army family members.
Found some memorabilia from when I served in the USAF as an F-16 crew chief. The top round is 30mm from an A-10. I was stationed at Shaw AFB, Sumter, SC, and remember the day Myrtle Beach AFB closed and all the A-10 squadrons transitioned to our base. The reason why I kept the A-10 round was for a memory of those Warthog crews coating the rounds w/ pig grease. Those A-10s can be wicked overhead, providing close ground support. From what I hear, certain religions or extremists detest swine.

If anybody is interested in why I joined, I say today for the military discounts, the 10% I'd have to wait for a senior citizen discount.
In all seriousness, some memorable times. Patches from my squadron and a top round from an A-10's 30mm. A little measurement for perspective.

I remember the days before "social studies"; constitutional studies was the mandatory academic curriculum. Reintroducing constitutional studies in grammar school would be a good way to get back on the well-worn path rather than social experimentation or ideologies that only look promising on paper but fail the people time and time again (socialism or communism).

Never made it to 'Nam though. T'was close though. Wasn't too long in when U.S. started withdrawing from 'Nam.
T'was 1 of them guys that told the "gun bunnies" which direction to point their "guns!"
Ended up in Germany in an "Honest John Rocket*" outfit. (which were considered a fairly obsolete weapons platform even at that time)

*for a comparison? The "Scud Misses" used in the "Gulf War" by the Iraqi's? Are "kinda" similar. Just not near as accurate!
