The opposite of fear is declaring yourself Right! Believe me, Hell is the largest congregation of people who will be declaring themselves Right for eternity.

All the facts, without the conversion of the heart are the seeds of a Hellish fruit.

True conversion including justification and sanctification include the mind (doctrine), heart (perspective talking skills, empathy, love and forgiveness) and action (loving through service) - and thing less equals Deism (mind conversion), New Age (heart conversion), Pew-sitters (behavioral conversion) - none of these people have experienced a complete conversion.

Unfortunately, many Protestants are stuck in their heads - only caring about correct doctrine / others are stuck in their hearts - only caring about making people feel good / and many Catholics are stuck in empty ritual - simply showing up to church like a robot. So what can we do about this?

Peace

Actually the opposite of fear is faith. They are always opposite.

Fear is also a sin.

Fear is also a sin.
How so? So when we are told to fear God, we are sinning?

Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. (Psalm 33:8)

It is written, COME AND HEAR, ALL YE THAT FEAR GOD-Ps 66:16. THEN PAUL STOOD UP, AND BECKONING WITH HIS HAND SAID, MEN OF ISRAEL, AND YE THAT FEAR GOD, GIVE AUDIENCE-Acts 13:16. MEN AND BRETHREN, CHILDREN OF THE STOCK OF ABRAHAM, AND WHOSOEVER AMONG YOU FEARETH GOD, TO YOU IS THE WORD OF THIS SALVATION SENT-Acts 13:26. Are some of you getting upset already? These words are from the Bible and are very clear. TO YOU (to those who fear God) IS THE WORD OF THIS SALVATION SENT. This Scripture, which Paul spoke, may seem strange to your ears. It may even offend some of you. You may believe it is not appropriate to scare people into making a commitment to Jesus. Nevertheless, the Bible tells us, AND OTHERS SAVE WITH FEAR, PULLING THEM OUT OF THE FIRE; HATING EVEN THE GARMENT SPOTTED BY THE FLESH-Jude 23. It said, save with fear.

If you study that out Fear of the Lord is a healthy respect.

Go through your Bible and see how many times you see the phrase fear not. Also in Revelation 21:8 the fearful is the first sin listed.

No a healthy respect of God is not a sin.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. :)

I don't know that the opposite of fear is faith. But I would say fear is a sin.

You know what? I misspoke. Declaring yourself to be Right is not the opposite to fear it is the mask of fear.

It is the narcissistic response to fear. It is Pride - the old man that we need to cast off - or the false self.

Every time Pride is encountered - it is masking fear....

Sorry but that is not correct either. Pride is always a cover up for Shame.

You can look at the shame in a person's life and look at the pride and the wall of pride will always be there to cover the shame.

Actually the reason that they are opposites is that where there is one that is not the other.

To put it in another context fear is faith of a negative.

Example: one believes a good thing will happen or one cowers in fear that a bad thing is going to happen.

It is also many times we find motivated by a spirit of fear. This spirit has to be disarmed before it can successfully be cast out. We also find that many allergies and even many cases of asthma are linked to fear.

The main topic of this thread is too vague and will but lead to fruitless discussion.

The reason is, because it's easy to be confused as to what pride is. It is defined as haughtyness in The Bible. Being puffed up in one's own mind and heart concerning the things and ways of THIS WORLD.

Some try to apply that negative emotion to the act of having boldness for The Word of God in preaching The Gospel.

1Thes 2:2-4
2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, Which trieth our hearts.
(KJV)

There was "much contention" with Paul's preaching at Philippi? Could they have confused Paul's boldness in The Gospel as pride, and thus contended with him for that reason, their hearts being settled in their own beliefs against The Gospel? It happens everyday with those who contend against The Gospel of Jesus Christ. But as Paul says, their exhortation was not of deceit, nor uncleanness, nor guile, for Paul was entrusted with The Gospel to preach. Likewise it is today with those whom God has sent to preach The Gospel of Jesus Christ The Word of God. It is not about pride.

Here's an example...

Acts 13:45-48
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
(KJV)

What would those unbelieving Jews mostly thought of Paul declaring that to them? Well, from their later attempts to deliver Paul up for trial in Jerusalem it showed they received Paul's boldness in rebuking them as an insult. Would they feel Paul was puffed up and prideful? Most likely.

Thus bold rebuke by those who stand in Christ Jesus is not an issue of pride, although those who contend against The Gospel may see it as pride.

Very nice, Veteran. I would like to say too that there are even Christians who seem to have something against a confident and bold Christian. But I think that Paul even spoke of that also.

[sup]7[/sup] For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Proverbs 11 (New International Version)
[sup]2[/sup] When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.
[sup]3[/sup] The integrity of the upright will guide them,
But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.

I think that is a pretty good explanation "fear is faith of a negative." But still, I don't know if faith is the opposite of fear. Faith enables us to get rid of a lot of sin, but still, to call it the opposite of fear...can't say for sure.

We either walk in faith or we walk in fear can't be in both. There fore they are opposites. Kind of like a sign I saw that said "fear knocked, faith answered and nobody was there."
