Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 10:28
Complete Jewish Bible

28 “Do not fear those who kill the body but are powerless to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in Gei-Hinnom.

If that's what you believe then OK. It doesn't change my point about Judaism though.

Also some Orthodox teach Aerial Toll-Houses regarding the souls journey after its departure from the body after death.
But if souls have departed this life in faith and love, while nevertheless carrying away with themselves certain faults, whether small ones over which they have not repented at all, or great ones for which – even thought they have repented over them – they did not undertake to show fruits of repentance: such souls, we believe, must be cleansed from this kind of sin, (St. Mark of Ephesus)
(Aerial Toll-Houses - OrthodoxWiki)

St. Mark of Ephesus was the main spokesman and theologian for the Orthodox at the Council of Ferrara in 1438. He also wrote that “the souls of people who die with unforgiven minor sins will experience spiritual sufferings in the afterlife, which, however, are not divine punishments but self-inflicted consequences of these sins”
The Spirit and Soul of the believer becomes sup servant to the Holy Spirit. It's the flesh (body) that is corrupt at death. That is why we get a new body. Just like the thief on the cross when we die we meet Jesus in Heaven our corrupt body returns to dust until the resurrection.

Yes. For the believer your soul goes to Heaven for the unbeliever your soul goes to hell therefore having had both destroyed.

Any particular decades?
I would expect sometime up and into the Middle Ages when Indulgences were a thing. Hard to keep track of all the shifts in doctrine. Do you still think you can pay money for a souls benefit?

You think they had mass produced prayer cards in the middle ages before the printing press was invented?
I don't think so.
Hard to keep track of all the shifts in doctrine.
What "shifts in doctrine"?
Do you still think you can pay money for a souls benefit?
Never could.

The idea of Purgatory dates back to the writings of Plato and Heraclides Ponticus both pagans. How did this pagan creation get into the Roman Catholic doctrine?
Naturally.
Because the RC doctrine is an amalgam of paganism and altered teachings attributed to Jesus.

Does Purgatory, "purge", exist?
No.

What it does exist to do, state, is that Jesus' death on the cross was insufficient to save souls.

The place of purging is commensurate with indulgences.
Not of Christ in the least either. But, if you believe in purgatory , you'll likely pay the church for that dead suffering loved one to be granted early release so they can go to heaven spotless of their now purged sins that carried over with them after death.
Nice racket. Lends a lot of substance to why there is so much Gold displayed with idols in Saint Peters.

Buy an after life sin cleansing.
I would wonder how the guardians in the purge lands know when the penetrant living family members check cleared. Prayers, do you think?
Dear saint Pete....Our father who art in banking....

Just like a whole host of pagan beliefs and practices. If you have not read The Two Babylons by Alexander Hislop please do so. The Catholics try to debunk him, but he did some excellent research on the Babylonian origins of many Catholic practices. Also, you could have included a poll in this thread since you have True or False in the title.

Purgatory is true !
Some people will go to Hell and deserve to.
Some people do not deserve to go to Hell, but could not go to Heaven.

If one claims that their is only Heaven and hell, that means that a lot of people will be in Heaven who should not be their ?
So what is this so called Heaven that they are claiming ? well it's not the real Heaven at all but a worldly Heaven claim brought about by ignorance or the Devil himself in fact.

Even Jesus did not go directly to Heaven in fact, but he went to get them Souls who were worthy people of God who were in limbo.

Now if their be a limbo their must be a Purgatory or in between lets say and why not. as once on is in hell that's it for ever and once in Heaven ?

Don't confuse Abraham's bosom for purgatory. Abraham's bosom was for OT Saints prior to the cross.

I think a lot of folks who believe they will go to purgatory will be SADLY disappointed, "forever and ever".

This is correct. Before the resurrection of Christ Sheol/Hades -- the abode of departed souls and spirits (which is in "the heart of the earth" or "the lower parts of the earth") -- had two compartments: (1) Abraham's Bosom, for the righteous dead, and (2) the torments of Hades for the unrighteous dead.

At the resurrection of Christ, all the OT saints were taken from Sheol/Hades to the New Jerusalem in Heaven. So now only the unsaved or unrighteous go the Hades. But it is not Purgatory, since they will all eventually be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire.

I thought the RCC position is that they did not stay in Purgatory for ever, not to mention it was a because no one can go to Heaven who is not pure, so the point of this is to purify ones Soul before entering Heaven.

Is one so nasty to let people who are not truly deserving of hell be condemned, then a lot of people would not make it to Heaven in a Protestant world, as nothing can get in to Heaven unless purified.
Or is the concept of Heaven in Protestantism different to that of the Catholic Heaven ?

I have Protestants make claims about what Heaven is, most of such is stupid pathetic dribble and deceptions, not to mention many RC are on the same worldly dribble.

People who claim that their cat etc is going to be in Heaven are off with the pixies.
Only the truly Saved can go to Heaven and you must be of the kingdom of God. so apart from that, Jesus never knew them and one was of this world and not of the Kingdom of God in fact, as such as is listed in the Bible can not enter in fact. not to mention nor would they wish to enter because they love the darkness in fact, so on the list is they who can not in fact.
Their will not be any Gays in Heaven, Thank God !

I'm certainly not a Purgatory expert.

As I showed in post #13 the concept goes back to Judaism.
Or do you think Judaism, is based on paganism?
