Here's the issue, religion did NOTHING wrong. It is a thing. Things cannot do anything to anyone.

HUMANS using religion has caused the problem for you and many.

So please if you need to be angry about anything, blame the evil men that hide behind religion, not religion.

It is tantamount to saying you don't like guns when it is the human pulling the trigger that is really the problem.

This is just a question...
What would you say to those who say Jesus is greater than religion? Based off of your definition. Like ATP, there are those who say they only need Christ and not religion. That is the new thing for the up and coming generation.
Religion is inescapable when dealing with God. Prayer is a religious practice. If you believe God to be the Creator, you have placed yourself under religious beliefs. Without question Jesus presented a moral code, the Bible speaks to the nature of God and the universe, there is an origin account within the Bible, and so on. By definition Christianity is a religion. Religion is simply a term or classification.

We all need Christ, yet if we are to fellowship with Him we will be practicing some form of religion.

To comprehend the poor language usage though, one could interprete, "I do not need a formalized church organization to be in relation or fellowship with Christ." Here I both agree and disagree. It is not necessary, but it is beneficial. It is not required for salvation, yet it proves fellowship with God.

1 John 4:20
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

So Justaname, where do you think the illogical hatred of religion comes from?

It reminds of people who love education, but hate scholarship.......completely illogical

Perhaps it comes from not wanting to be labeled religious. But perhaps, its ignorance of the definition of the word "Religion" that causes all the hubbub to begin with. People ask "What religion are you?" and they don't want to be labeled with any denom. So they say "I don't belong to any specific religion, all I need is Jesus." Just an example I suppose.

, yet it proves fellowship with God.
It proves nothing. If you took the time out to ask God how many in church have "fellowship" with Him you would be most dismayed

An this has certainly nothing to do with church

I suspect because the modern society has deemed religion as something to be reviled this is why Christians adopt this anti religion stance.

It's very sad when peer pressure has made a word unacceptable.

Once upon a time when people where gay they where simply happy, now you get trounced upon when you say you are gay. Well that is mankind for you. it is a good thing Gods grace is so deep without it no of us would be saved.

The Bible speaks of "true religion" which is seldom found, today. But bad religion is rampant. Having a "religious spirit" is understood to mean being a hypocrite. The root meaning of religion is "to bind" or "to tie". Webster's Collegiate Dictionary traces the word back to an old Latin word religio meaning "taboo, restraint." A deeper study reveals that the word comes from the two words RE and LIGARE. RE is a prefix meaning "return" and "LIGARE" means "to bind". In other words, "return to bondage".

This is what religions and religious people do:
Mat_23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

If you fellowship with your wife, are you practicing a religion? I think most of you are missing what it means to fellowship with Christ. It has nothing to do with religion. You are not practicing a religion when fellowshipping with Christ. You are experiencing relationship and life.
