I am glad that our new King has embraced his role as Defender of the Faith as well as Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Like most Anglicans, King Charles understands that being deeply rooted in and committed to his own faith allows him to be open and reach out to others with respect for their beliefs.
As the Queen said at the time of her Diamond Jubilee: “The concept of our established Church is occasionally misunderstood and, I believe, commonly under-appreciated. Its role is not to defend Anglicanism to the exclusion of all other religions. Instead, the Church has a duty to protect the free practice of all faiths in this country.”
So, with that in mind perhaps we should stop arguing and disrespecting each other’s beliefs but treat everybody with the same respect, even those who disagree with us. We all have the same right to our beliefs as the late Queen and King Charles III have recognised.
