Rev P3: The Two Myriads of Myriads Horsemen

(Rev 9:16 LITV) And the number of the armies of the cavalry was two myriads of myriads; and I heard their number.
(Rev 9:17 ASV) And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates as of fire and of hyacinth and of brimstone: and the heads of lions; and out of their mouths proceedeth fire and smoke and brimstone.​

Who are these people? What we have about them are (a) their size that was only heard by John and (b) the color “jacinth” which is a hint. Let’s deal first with their size.

Some Bible translators translate their size as “two hundred million,” that is two ten thousand times ten thousand. Which is correct “two myriads of myriads” or “two hundred million?” Their size, as for me, could only be expressed as either two groups of people or a literal single group of 200,000,000 people because of the number “two.” It will help if we knew who these people are.

What is this color hyacinth or jacinth in Rev 9:17?

In the vision of the New Jerusalem in chapter 21 of Revelation, it is written:

(Rev 21:19 ASV) The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald;
(Rev 21:20 ASV) the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst.​

In the 11th foundation you will find the gem jacinth numbered G5192 in Strong’s Greek Dictionary (the second word defined above). It is in the 11th foundation. Now let’s go to chapter 7 of this book and find the corresponding name of the tribe of Israel with the same ordinal number – 11th.

(4) And I heard the number of them that were sealed, a hundred and forty and four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the children of Israel:
(5) Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand: Of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand;
(6) Of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand;
(7) Of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand;
(8) Of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand; Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.​

Did you find it? We know that this tribe is divided further into two groups or tribes – Ephraim and Manasseh. Are they the two groups of (myriad of myriads) troops God is using to unleash the (first?) three plagues?

Remember the “experimental computations” we did in the explanation of a verse (Revelation 14:20) from the vision of the Two Harvest in the Hidden Seals Section? Here’s that verse:

(Rev 14:20 ESV) And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.​

As was said there, this verse from the 2nd Harvest and a verse here in the 6th Trumpet…

(Rev 9:15 ESV) So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released to kill a third of mankind.​

…are believe by the author to be depicting the same event. The link between these two visions was seen because of the computations involving the quantity of the symbolic blood of those slain at the Two Harvest (2nd harvest), the number of the symbolic angels here, and the result of those computations at the 6th Seal where the same angels here are present there.

Now, aside from the computations we made, there’s a passage in Joel chapter 3 that will help prove what the author is saying but before that, here first is the complete account of the vision of the 2nd Harvest:

Rev 14:17-20 ESV
(17) Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.
(18) And another angel came out from the altar, the angel who has authority over the fire, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Put in your sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.”
(19) So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of the earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
(20) And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.​

Now, here is the passage from Joel:

(Joe 3:13 ESV) Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Go in, tread, for the winepress is full. The vats overflow, for their evil is great.
(Joe 3:14 ESV) Multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.​

Isn’t Joel 3:13 telling about the 2nd Harvest and aren’t the two “multitudes” in Joel 3:14 the two (myriad of myriads) troops? The troops of Ephraim and Manasseh! That is how the passage from Joel help support the thought that Revelation 14:20 (2nd Harvest) and Revelation 9:15 (6th Trumpet) depict the same event. This also proves in turn the validity of the re-opening of the 6th and the 7th Seals which comprise the “4th Section” or the “Hidden Seals Section.”

The author is still studying who Ephraim and Manasseh are today.

Is it appropriate to use the list and order of the 12 tribes of Israel in chapter 7 in assigning the 12 gems of the “New Jerusalem” as their emblems? As for the author, it is because the vision of the Sealing of the 144,000 (12 tribes) and the vision of the New Jerusalem which represent the whole house of Israel (12 tribes) are related to each other – the numerical value 12000 and the numeral 144 are present in both of them (144 x 1000 in the former). Now, the assigning of a gem as an emblem to each tribe of Israel is not explicitly or implicitly mentioned in any of the two visions, but, it has an Old Testament origin. It can be found in Exodus chapter 28. God instructed Moses to make holy vestments for his brother Aaron for glory and adornment. Twelve precious stones engraved with the corresponding names of the 12 tribes of Israel were to be set in the Breastplate of Judgment.

Jacinth or Chalcedony?​

In the Aramaic rendition of Revelation 9:17, specifically that of BFBS/UBS Peshitta and the Crawford codex, the color “jacinth” in the breastplate of the riders is not there, instead it is the color “chalcedony” that is there. The Dutch Peshitta translation has this color also.

On the other hand, all the Greek based English Bibles I know have the color jacinth in the said verse. The Aramaic based English Bibles which are the works of Etheridge, Murdock, and Lamsa have the color jacinth as well. The Aramaic based Pad van Waarheid tot die Lewe Afrikaans Peshitta translation has the color jacinth too in Revelation 9:17.

How did this discrepancy happen? Well, we can only speculate but there are facts that we should know.

The book of Revelation is included in what they call the “western five.” These are the books of 2 Peter, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, and Revelation. The Aramaic originals of these books are yet to be found. All the existing Aramaic manuscripts or codices of these books are just copies or copies of copies of their originals.

As for me, the only thing that we can do to determine which color is really in Revelation 9:17 is to find out which color makes sense or makes more sense. And that is the color jacinth.

The 11th gem (jacinth) of the “New Jerusalem” in Rev 21:19-20 will still correspond to the tribe of Joseph even if the order of the birth of the sons of Israel is used in assigning the gems to each tribe just like in Exodus.

The Four Angels and the Great River Euphrates​

A verse in Revelation 9 says:

(Rev 9:15 KJV) And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.​

Another passage from the same chapter says:

(Rev 9:17 KJV) And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
(Rev 9:18 KJV) By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.​

Aren’t these two passages telling that the four angels and the two myriad of myriads army of horsemen symbolize the same troops or people? This means that the four angels symbolize the two myriads of myriads army of horsemen in this trumpet.

Now, if the imagery of these four angels was used to represent the two myriad of myriads troops which are also in the symbolic form, what about the great river Euphrates where the four angels are said to be bound in this (6th) Trumpet? Does this great river also represent the two myriads of myriads troops or their nations in some way or another such as their economies and resources? That’s what the author of this article believes. Could this great river Euphrates represent any other nation(s) or things or powers at the time of the 6th Bowl when it will be dried up?

(Rev 16:12 Murdock) And the sixth poured his cup upon the great river Euphrates; and its waters dried up, so that a way might be prepared for the kings from the rising of the sun.​

In this age, the literal river Euphrates is not a big problem for an invading force that will come from the east. The Great River Euphrates is a symbolic river which could very well be representing the armies of the 2 myriad of myriads. It’s very likely that their resources and/or implements of war are what will be dried up so that a way might be prepared for the kings from the east.

Some people say that the two myriads of myriads troops are the armies of China and that their size is literal 2 hundred million. If China will be involved in this military confrontation and if the people pointed to by the two myriads of myriads troops are the same people the great river Euphrates is also figuring, she can’t be the 2 Myriads of Myriads horsemen (great river Euphrates) because she is an eastern country – more eastern than the territory of the beast.
