Of the 12 sons of Jacob, Dan is not mentioned in Rev 7:

4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. 5 From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed,
from the tribe of Reuben 12,000,
from the tribe of Gad 12,000,
In place of Dan, we have Manasseh:

6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000,
from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000,
from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000
Manasseh was a son of Joseph. In fact, Dan is not mentioned in the NT at all.

Why did John not mention Dan in Rev 7?

One possible reason could be found in Judges 18:

30 There the Danites set up for themselves the idol, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the captivity of the land.
As a tribe, the Danites were too much into idol worship.

On the other hand, Ezekiel prophesied in 48:

1“Now these are the names of the tribes:
At the northern frontier, Dan will have one portion bordering the road of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath and running on to Hazar-enan on the border of Damascus with Hamath to the north, and extending from the east side to the west side.
2 Asher will have one portion bordering the territory of Dan from east to west.
In Ezekiel's vision of the new temple, there was land dedicated to the tribe of Dan.

. The Bible does not mention what happened to the Danites after the Babylonian Captivity, which occurred in the 6th century BC. Some scholars suggest that they were assimilated into other tribes or nations, or that they preserved their identity and culture in some remote regions such as Denmark.

1Kings talks about the calves of gold set up in Dan and Bethel:

1Ki 12:28
Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
1Ki 12:29
And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

You go to Amos the last book of the OT and Dan is mentioned here:
Amo 8:14
They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

Then if you go to Hosea these calves of Samaria in Amos can be found here: Even thou it is speaking of Ephraim it's still the same idolatry found in Samaria so Dan may be incorporated in there as well?

Hos 13:15
Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
Hos 13:16
Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

Just doing a word search on Dan, last entry is in Amos.
But he was also called a serpent sooo...

Gen 49:17
Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

Maybe Dan was in the garden... hmm

just sayin..
Interesting though that he is not among the tribes in the book of Revelation.

just adding what I found..
Hugs

ssuch beliefs are held, but it does not make them fact.
Does the comment that such beliefs are held imply they are fact?

Not to me, but I have observed merely mentioning a documented belief-set on occasions leads to castigation, as if mentioning such beliefs exist equals agreement with them.

Yep. Real quick on the draw some folks, ain't they . . .

No the comment simply means that some people believe it. It neither implies nor denies it may be fact.

Yes some people will castigate and shoot from the hip, and others will believe it blindly and others like me will question your source of facts to view them.
