This needs no explanation...let's see who is the good at riddles...
Riddle: There’s a one-story house in which everything is yellow. Yellow walls, yellow doors, yellow furniture. What color are the stairs?

Now if a house, is considered to be a single story house above ground has a basement that is dug into the ground below the house, then the question that needs to be answered first is how many stories does this house have?

If a single story house is on short 1' 6" (i.e. 450 mm) high stumps so as to provide ventilation under the house, can it have stairs to gain access to the house?

Now the riddle, in my humble opinion, is lacking in the necessary details to draw conclusions as to whether or not it may have stairs in it to gain access to the basement under it.

The riddle should have stipulated the single story house was built on a concrete slab where the floor level was only one step above the flat ground where it was built, with no basement, and it was painted such that every thing in it was painted yellow. It had yellow walls, yellow doors, yellow furniture, etc. What colour is the stairs?

Then the answer that the house had no stairs would have been correct.

Oh I am sorry, I am being a kill joy.

Unless you come from the UK and the riddle used the word bungalow ,instead of one storey house ........they have no basements- they are all on one level ..........

A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50." The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less. In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?
Did he write ‘ your exact weight ‘ on the piece of paper !?

It still comes down to providing the right information for the riddle to work. As the riddle was told by a United States person, the riddle had to have been United States based. Since you did not ask the riddle, your statement is ridiculous since a bungalow can have a loft under the sloping roof, it can need stairs to access that area easily. (Information found by a google search.) Bungalows exist around the world with many variations.

Not the prescribed format for this thread, but it IS a riddle. ;)

Timi: You know why a compass has a mirror on the back?

Mateo: [turning the compass over to see the mirror] Why?

Timi: So you can see who's lost.

What 9 letter word still remains a word each time you take away a letter?
