Now...this conversation is going on with the backdrop of the world's largest outdoor orgy going on involving Romans and Jews alike...
But No One mentions the stronghold of sinful behavior...

And this IS THE focus key of the lesson.
This is the ROCK upon which Jesus is built his church upon. (Not Peter)

Please clarify...

because it seems like you might be saying that the rock on which Jesus built his church was a pagan orgy?

Now what exactly does the scriptures say in this passage?
*That the most fortified Gate to Hell cannot prevail against the message*

I ALWAYS want people to know the scriptures.

Did you answer the question?

Surely, you are not saying that the rock on which Jesus built His church was a pagan orgy?

Because, it seems to be the thing that you were implying.

But I know that no Christian in their right mind would even think such a thing.

So, please tell us what you really mean by your statements.

Yes I answered but you seem to be lost.

How you can get there from here is beyond me...there are no roads and a huge cliff.

Read the scriptures!
Then if you can't understand the metaphors...

The fact that you are still evading the question speaks volumes.

Just so that we are clear....the rock on which Jesus built His church is Peter's statement that Jesus is the Son of God.

Of course...and ALL that goes with that is the really important part.

That telling how good God is, that telling that He's a person and personable is the ROCK the church is built upon...

Nothing else. Not Jesus himself... although he's a part of it...but the TELLING is it.
Actually, the Rock that Jesus would build His church on was the CONFESSION ...Peter confessed with his mouth who Jesus is. In other words ...faith, believing on Him. That's why Jesus asked, "Who do you say I am?" (What is your confession?)

Yeah...read the whole article and see if what I'm saying is true. Read the scriptures in Matthew as well concerning Peter's Confession of Christ.
The Pan Temple at Cesarean Phillipi was once a Baal type temple with sacrifices of babies from prostitutes to the Greek god.
Phillip rebuilt the city and Temple at one of the three springs that feeds the Jordan river...at the waterfall as mentioned in the article. This spring used to gush forth with such verocity that it was said to be fed by the River Styx itself.
Where Baal is a conflict type god helpful in overcoming challenges and conflicts this god Pan was a fertility type god. Helpful in gaining food, produce, money, and offspring for herds and yourself.

A gate for any city was it's most fortified location...any army setting up would build a siege ramp anywhere but at a city gate unlike every movie you have seen.
Cesarean Phillipi was named "Phillipi" because of other cities named after Caesar and the Tetriarch Phillip had done this one.

So when Jesus brought the Disciples up to the outskirts of this city to the world's largest outdoor orgy...they were somewhat embarrassed and disgusted after three years of walking with the Rabbi Jesus. They had seen him walk on water. Heal the sick, make the blind see, the deaf mute hear and speak praising God... even a couple of resurrections from the dead. (Lazarus was coming). The feedings of thousands with leftovers more than what they started with was also "par for the course".

So...this is where Jesus began a lesson.
Peter, who does everyone say I am?
Peter then names the MOST zealous prophets that have faced down entire empires. (Important point but not key yet)

But Peter, Who do YOU say that I am?

And Peter says that Jesus is the promised Messiah...very God of very God.
But it's more than that actually...
Up to this time God was in Heaven or in the Holy of Holies...a forbidden place that ordinary people couldn't go without dying. Even many priests had died in there and were drug out by the rope tied on their ankles. God was to be feared and someone else had to ferry your forgiveness or messages. But Jesus was a person and personable...so very gracious and kind to the humble. He wanted to know us on an individual level and be known for who He is as a person.

(Not Peter)

That telling the good things about God...that's the thing. And when you embrace this ROCK the storerooms of Heaven's riches, power, might, and anything else needed is at your disposal.

Later...
When Paul says to the Romans "that there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus" it's a bit of a massive understatement.

And that's the thing that people miss...and our churches are caught up in finger pointing and wagging...and brow beating people into submission...and that behavior is not of God.

without looking into it your history is probably right but your scripture quote should be:
KJV
Mat 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
Mat 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

otherwise you're correct on the point of there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. what is of God isn't condemned by God.
nor would it sin against God. and it acceptable in the Presence of God. God would not sin against Himself. He is who He is, His nature is what it is, and would not change no matter where what is of Him is. such as His Word (Lord Jesus Christ) or His Presence (Holy Spirit).

that which born of a cat lives like a cat eats what cats eat and does what cats do. that which has received the life of a dog lives like a dog eats what dogs eat to sustain a dog's life and does what dogs do. those who receive the Life of Christ do as Jesus does, think like Jesus does and experiences what Jesus experiences. which would be a son-ship with the same Father as Jesus has, for example.

Of course Faith is a portion of this but it's not the entirety of it...
That Jesus is the Messiah and God is a part as well...

But the personhood and personal relationship and the kindness and goodness and graciousness that goes along with what Peter said is absolutely crucial...Up to this time a priest was needed for communication with God...no personal relationship was possible.

The ignoring of the sin and idol worship amongst the backdrop is also crucial as too many people love to point fingers... Jesus wasn't about condemning the world but saving it. The world already stands condemned...no need to do more of it.

So with all that I said, being said...I disagree with your point and reconfirm mine.

Jesus didn't condone sin and orgies. The point of the location was to emphasize the fact that all the evil that satan has to offer and all the powers of hell cannot defeat the church who knows who He is!

“And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” — Daniel 11:32 (KJV)

The world already stands condemned...we don't need to tell them that...they already know that.
You are soooo missing it.

Not really. I don't go around condemning sinners to hell. We are, on the other hand, to admonish our brothers and sisters when we see them in sin.
