This story is sure being hyped up a lot in the media. And I am certain the story is distorted; you won't really hear the truth of a military situation like this, such as the weapon won't be ready for use until 2027...
Detonation is 1KM depth, I wonder what megaton yield this would need to be to raise such a towering wave of 1600 feet. I imagine very big megatons explosion, seems implausible, like Tsar Bomba status?.
NATO has reportedly warned members that Russia's Belgorod submarine no longer appeared to be operating out of its White Sea base, where it has been active since July. Officials warned that Russia may plan to test Belgorod's "Poseidon" weapons system, a drone equipped with a nuclear bomb that Russia has claimed is capable of creating a "radioactive tsunami," according to Italian media.
Koffler said the device is likely not to be operational until 2027, but Putin may be testing it as a means to intimidate both Ukraine its NATO allies in the West. Putin has warned that Russia's potential use of nuclear weapons is "not a bluff."
The drone can be deployed from the submarine at any time and detonated at a depth of 1 kilometer near a coastal city. Russian state media has claimed the device can create a 1,600-ft. wave that smashes into the coast and irradiates it.
Belgorod's location remains publicly unknown as of Monday, a situation that is not particularly surprising to Koffler. Russian submarines have some of the best stealth capabilities in the world and have even entered U.S. waters undetected in the past, according to Koffler.
"There have been times when Russian nuclear-powered attack submarines, armed with long-range cruise missiles, operated undetected for weeks close to U.S. shores," Koffler told Fox News Digital.
One incident in the early 2010s saw a submarine get detected only when it was leaving U.S. waters.
"My colleagues from the Office of Naval Intelligence got a serious dressing down by a four-star general" following the event, Koffler said.

The Tsar Bomba size is actually not that big dimensionally, but it is the largest nuclear explosion ever created at around 50 megatons

Are you naive enough to think that teh US would not know of a high speed torpedo travelling thousands of miles in oceans where we have many submarines?
This tirpedo does not go airborne after apoint, so it explodes by the shore- that isn't the US.
Do you think if Pouting Putin is stupid enough to launch this torpedo and it explodes and harms the US we would not respond?

Hate to tell you this, but teh LA class and Virginia class boatsd will find the sub. Russian subs aren't stealthy enough to evade detection. So if it heads to the Atlantic- it will have to pass through the GIUK sosus line and be found!

Seems many western leaders really fearfully expect Russia to launch nukes soon, but IMO, they wont do that. The west though thinks Putin a mad dog.

Most of a nuclear war to come is dependent on what NATO and Biden do in Ukraine, and the newly acquired oblasts, not Russia.
Russia is calling up another 300,000 to fight in Ukraine, why would they do that if they were going to blow up Ukraine with Nukes.
Because Russia doesn't care about their citizens? Don't you find it odd that when the Soviet Union collapsed, the theory was that the ranks of Sargent on down could be sent home and not paid. Officers lower than say, Captain sent home as well then the army could be called up on a moments notice because they didn't reuire training to fight? That's the old WW2 stratedgy of overwhelm by mass not quality. The trouble with that theory is eventually you have only one possibility to survive ....light em up and see how they fly. Nuclear.
I doubt Putin gets a true assessment of what is happening on the ground. The reason he loses field Generals is because no one around them can fight. The higher ranks suffer because the lower ranks are worthless. Senior NCO's and Officers are cannon foder as a result. If US ground forces were in Ukriane, the Russia casualties would be more massive than they are now.
Meanwhile: Why not field the Iron Shield system on Japan? Shoot down these North Korean test shots? After all they fly over soverign soil. Unannounced tests, shoot them down and dare Kim to do something about it.
About that shield system. maybe it does not have enough anti missile missles to actually deploy and also have something left tin reserve for US defence purposes. After all this is Japan, not the US they would be defending. US also has been prodding Japan to redevelop their military capability. I have read Ukraine war is steadily depleting NATO and the US armories of missiles. Which also brings up another question, can the US keep supplying Ukraine forever?, No they wll run out of things. And what about the semiconductor shortages needed to build this stuff.

I recall reading that was an issue with Germans in ww2, they had some superior military tech, but the numbers of men, material and fuel was way insufficient to win the war.
