Selfishness

I was thinking about how angry i get when i get accused of being selfish in this covid theater...
As soon as i hear or read that, the fire inside me ignites and i have to rush for the fire extinguisher to put out the flames before i act or speak from that position of anger...

But u know what... After giving it some thought... I am selfish... I take that as a compliment...

I'm concerned for my family
I'm concerned for my friends
I'm concerned for my community
I'm concerned for myself

All my primary concerns are centered around myself so if that is being self centered than i am guilty of it...

But who can actually say that they are more concerned about a stranger on the other side of the country than with their own family...
That would be irresponsible i would say... Im not at all happy about seeing my family, friends and community be sacrificed for virus that kills less than 0.001% of our population at an average age of over 82... Thats being selfish then i am guilty as charged...

When you care about your family your not being selfish, selfishness is evil not good.

The most irresponsible thing not caring about others beyond your family, about caring more about your personal freedoms than wanting to do what Christ taught and reiterated across the whole Bible. Being a Christian is much more than believing in Christ and telling others, it's treating others better than you treat yourself. We westerners got this idea that following Christ just meant believing and your good and missed everything else God wanted. God tells us in the shema:

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31

So what is loving our neighbor as ourselves:

In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denariie and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

We aren't called to seek our own freedom, to look for conspiracy theories but to help others so they know our love and that means doing things you and me may not like, like wearing a mask if your out among crowds and it doesn't take away anyone's earthly freedom it is loving your neighbor, your family, your community. You want to love all three then do the loving thing and don't sweat it because your storing up treasures in Heaven.

I can't tell you what to do and this virus is new and it has infected more than your statistics say and in fact no one stats are right on, it could be the virus that because people want to fight be an extinction level event or it could be mild we just don't know. We do know it is highly, highly contagious. Really this will show us are we casual Christians or Christians whom even though we may kick and scream do what is the thing to do - Love our neighbor which is everyone around us. In the love of Christ.
