No ifs and's or butt's when you get to the voting booth, there is no box for "consider both the external act and the interior reality" it is either yes or no. Its either that reality or do not vote.

Right — the ballot itself is yes or no, but the reason a Christian chooses yes or no cannot be separated from God’s Law or God’s judgment. Civil law gives us a binary choice; Christian moral theology tells us how to make that choice.

May we see a renewed rise in charity toward our neighbor — including those who oppose us — and a deeper practice of restraint through abstinence until one is married and prepared to welcome and care for a child. I am confident that such a return to virtue would lead to a profound decline in despair, in violence against children both inside and outside the womb, and in the circumstances that make adoption necessary. Right — and that’s exactly why Christians must discern why they vote yes or no. The reason a Christian chooses yes or no cannot be separated from God’s Law or God’s judgment. The law may limit external choices, but Christian moral theology governs the interior reasoning behind those choices.

The problem is you can't just hit someone with abortion issues, with the Law, but with Example and the Law.

The Law is pro-life, but the Example is to be the One who will take care of that life.

If we can't take care of the children they do not kill, we have failed them.

I agree — Christian moral reasoning has never been only about God’s Law in isolation. God’s Law tells us the objective truth about the act, but the Christian example expresses the interior reality of charity, responsibility, and the willingness to care for the life we say is worth protecting.

That’s exactly why Christians cannot separate the external act from the interior intent. Civil law may address the act, but Christian moral theology requires us to consider the act and the heart when we speak about life, responsibility, and how we vote.
