Okay so I've attempted to explain this before in another thread. But it didn't work out. So let's go.

I'll start by saying this:

Give a man a fish, or teach a man a fish. Which method is better. Charity groups mostly use the give a man a fish method.

Now as for donations:

How people only give something away that they don't want anymore, thinking it's real charity. There's a saying for people who do that (Palming it off) Why not give something to someone that's new or you would still value?

As for food:

We don't all share the same diet, that's a fact of nature. Giving someone something you think is beneficial for them could well end up not.

About volunteering:

If you are only volunteering because it makes you feel good, then you are expecting a payment (Dopamine) That's why you get upset when someone at the receiving end says no.

Yes, that would not be an example of genuine giving. As if they want some gain from it, of something they never wants to see again.

There are many people who do not give from the heart my friend. And it's sad

I work as a volunteer. It has rewarding moments but it also causes me to experience mental anguish, and sometimes gives me nightmares. We don’t speak much these days @2bme but I appreciate the help you‘ve given me in easing some of the stress that comes from doing that work.

Thank you for your post And questions.

Jesus tells us feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, shelter the stranger, cloth the naked, tend the sick, and visit the imprisoned. (Matthew 25: 35,36) Thus, it doesn’t matter if people have employable skills or not, we should care for them. How we care for them is up to each of us; a conversation with God as well as earnest prayer can inform us if we are aligned with His will.

The scriptures do not say (as far as I know) we should help the unemployable learn skills that will support them, but that is certainly a reasonable form of charity. (Does someone know?)

As far as whether giving is just a duty, or a means to feel good about oneself, if you love God and love your neighbor, then helping others is part of cheerful obedience, and is not a burden.

Peace.

I was a hospice palliative care volunteer for 30 years I offered it all to God every time I went. Its not something I can brag about no one wants to hear about death.Very few know I did it let alone 30 years and many deaths. I chose one that will send people running away and many thought I was crazy for doing it. Even now people will say how could I do it if I told them. Many men and women I have visited and matched up until their last day.The longest was 2 years.

It how this one works everyone will think your nuts

I offered to do it when I was about 25 while I was praying it just came to me.Several years later it popped up in front of me to do it.So I did it no looking back it was what I was called to do.I retired and don't do it anymore I have my own problems now.I need the help now - not the same.Prayer would be helpful I find myself in a strange position.I see what I did as God's work not mine I simply offered to do it and God said yes do it and I responded to these thoughts.

Giving to the poor/charity is a requirement for Christians.
The question is how to do this? Most of us have to use charity organisations, we aren't able to personally train a person needing it., equally we have to rely on the charities to use wisely the donations they are given.
That said the two charities I prefer to use are How we help
And Transforming communities through the local church
I li,e them as they seek to work through local churches, they give aid to Christians in disasters and for Christians in more settled areas they help set up businesses etc.

There is no one help that fits all situations.

When did I do that?
