Happened once in the mid 1800's. If it happens again it will be much much worse as we are a far more electronic dependent world.

If the internet shut down, governments could no longer collect taxes on google, amazon, etc. Trillions in tax revenues lost.

On the plus side, mon and pop stores might make a comeback. There could be a big demand for local farms. Centralization and consolidation of the economy under mega retailers like walmart and amazon would no longer be possible under globalization. Et al.
