The messages of the prophets got them killed by the people. On the other hand the messages of the OT soothsayers were readily accepted by the people.
What, in your opinion, is the difference in the messages?
I don't think your right. Some came in the name of a prophet and were false in their message. Soothsayers, on the other hand were not tolerated in Israel, although Saul consulted one and there may be other occasions.
To be deceptive, one has to look, sound and for all tense and purposes appear as the real deal, but in reality they bring a false message. These days they twist the word of God and bring it into disrepute. There underlining message is "HATH GOD REALLY SAID". Others, well, they like to add to Christ's word and purport that they receive new revelations on top of the complete canon of scripture. When in all reality Jesus is the final prophet and there is NO new teachings from above.
If there is any "prophets" today, they wouldn't amount to anymore than agabas.
