John S
All mankind came under the penalty of death due to Adams fall. Romans 5:12. The Law of sin and death came in four hundred and thirty years after God gave the promise of salvation to Abraham through Christ [the seed]. Galatians 3:17, Romans 5:13-14. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses. God foreseeing the future, ensured that the Gentile nations would also have the opportunity of salvation through that same promise, by faith. Galatians 3:8, 14
I do not profess to know or understand all that was achieved by Christ's death on the cross but in essence -
Hebrews 9
15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
Without Christ death on the cross on our behalf, we would still be under the penalty of Adam's fall and unable to receive the eternal inheritance promised to Abraham and all those who believe in Christ by faith.
Without Christ death on the cross on our behalf, we would not be able to receive the promised "Holy Spirit" John 16:7, Ephesians 1:13, Acts 2:33
The Holy Spirit being the - seal of our redemption. Ephesians 4:30. A deposit guaranteeing that redemption Ephesians 1:14. A deposit guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 1:22, 2 Corinthians 5:4-6
Hebrews 9
27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Ephesians 1:14
who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
Christ will come again to redeem those who are waiting for him, into their eternal inheritance...
Shalom!!!
