Hi everyone- quick question- wondering the reason for this:Luke 9:3 ( Jesus sending his disciples out for the 1st time)He told them: "Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic.Then Later Luke 22:35, 36 (Last Supper Discussion)Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" "Nothing," they answered. He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.Question: Did Jesus now saw: "Take these things" because they were about to be scattered and on their own? Did he say this to make the point- that the world will no longer take care of them?

Perhaps it was to show that God must be listened to, all the time... not just once. He is living and active. A sword was later used to lop the ear off of a Roman soldier... and Jesus healed the ear and said that if you live by the sword you will die by the sword.I think it is people's tendency to think that because God told them to not bring a sword one day, that's all they need. God will never ask them to bring a sword on another day. Then, some people think that just because God tells them to bring a sword, they should bring the sword every single day, and that they can do whatever they want to do w/ the sword.Peter knew that Jesus would be delivered up (it must happen), but he still lashed out to prevent it from happening, and lopped a guys ear off w/ the sword he was carrying right?I suppose the same reason Jesus healed blindness in different ways... trying to show us that we can't box God in. He should be listened to, actively.

I think this denotes that their would be a change when they went out in Luke 9 there was no real threat people wanted to hear this new message and God would see to their needs they just need faith and Jesus was there with them. Spirtually the gospel armour was not as needed because the ministrey of Christ had to be completed.Luke 9:3 "And He said unto them, "Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor script, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece." When you "take nothing for your journey", it documents that you have the faith that God will make provision for you along the way. The Word "staves" as it is used here, is to present yourself as one in high authority, like a scepter, like your a very important person.Luke 22:36 "Then said He unto them, "But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."Christ gave notice of a great change of circumstances now approaching. At the time the apostles understood Christ to mean real weaponsThe disciples must not expect that their friends would be kind to them as they had been. Therefore, he that has a purse, let him take it, for he may need it. They must now expect that their enemies would be more fierce than they had been, and they would need weapons. This is the physical view of this verse. But most scholars believe Christ was speaking of spirtual weapons. That he spake only of the weapons of the spiritual warfare. The sword of the Spirit is the sword with which the disciples of Christ must furnish themselves. Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
