There are many Christians today who do not believe in the eternal security of the believer. And that is only because they do not understand the perfection of the finished work of Christ and His present ministry in Heaven. When we study the meaning of the shed blood of Christ in Scripture, we see a connection between the Ark of the Covenant, with its Mercy Seat, and the true Mercy Seat in Heaven -- the throne of God called *the Throne of Grace* -- within the Heavenly Sanctuary.

There are some who claim that the Ark of the Covenant is on earth. There are others who claim that it has been lost, and needs to be found. But the New Testament tells us that the Ark of the Covenant (Testament) is presently in Heaven:
And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail. (Rev 11;19).

The Ark of the Covenant was a box of shittim (acacia) wood overlaid with gold, having the following dimensions: length 2.5 cubits (3.75 ft); width 1.5 cubits (2.25 ft); height 1.5 cubits (2.25 ft). Above the Ark was the Mercy Seat, 2.5 cubits (3.75 ft) long and 0.5 cubits (0.75 ft) wide. There were two cherubims made of gold and placed at each end of the Mercy Seat, with their wings extending upward and their faces looking downward. The Ark had rings and poles so that it could be carried about. Exodus 25 gives us the details.

The two tablets (tables) of stone with the Ten Commandments were within the Ark, as well as the golden pot of manna, and Aaron’s rod which budded. God would meet and commune with Moses from above the Mercy Seat and between the two cherubims. Moses would only see the glory of the LORD, having the appearance of fire (called “Shekinah” -- meaning “dwelling” or “presence of God” -- by the rabbis, but not by the Holy Spirit). For further details see Exodus 25.

What was the “testament” or “testimony” (הָעֵדֻ֔ת,
ha eduth) which was placed within the Ark? It was none other than the Ten Commandments, written with the finger of God on two tablets of stone, called “the tables of the covenant” (Heb 9:4,5): Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercy seat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. The testimony testified to two things (1) God’s absolute righteousness and holiness and (2) man’s sinful condition before God.

The Mercy Seat (to show that God would have mercy on sinners through the blood of Christ) was within the Most Holy Place (the Holy of Holies), and the High Priest could enter into this place just once a year – on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), which was in the 7th month, on the 10th day of the month. He would enter with the blood of a young bullock for a sin offering, to be sprinkled on the Mercy Seat seven times. And there were also several other sacrifices and ceremonies on this day as noted in Leviticus 16: 1-34 and 23:26-32. It was a very solemn and special day for Israel.

God provided Israel with a tabernacle (tent), and later on with the temple built by Solomon. The Ark of the Covenant was the focal point of each place of worship. But what was the purpose of this very special container? The answer is found in Exodus 25:22:
And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

Joshua settled the children of Israel in the land of Canaan, but the Ark did not have a proper resting place until the time of David, when it was placed in the city of David (Zion or Jerusalem). The Ark had been captured by the Philistines (1 Samuel 4-7) at one point (for which they paid a high price), but was recovered by king David (2 Samuel 5-6), who was not allowed to build the temple because he had engaged in bloodshed. Therefore it was his son Solomon who built the magnificent temple at Jerusalem (from 956 to 949 BC), and created an inner sanctuary for the Ark of the Covenant (1 Kings 6:19), from which the pot of manna and Aaron’s rod were now missing:
And the oracle [Heb debir = inner sanctuary] he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

However, in order to place the ark in the temple, there was a meticulous ceremony, and after it was placed there, the glory of God filled the temple (2 Chron 5:2-14):
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims... There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt... So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God. (verses 7,10,14)

Solomon’s temple and Herod’s temple (rebuilt first by Ezra and Nehemiah) were destroyed because of the rebellion and disobedience of Israel and the Jews. However, they only represented the Temple in Heaven. Therefore there in no temple of God on earth at present. And the Ark of the Covenant was probably taken up to Heaven before the destruction of Solomon s temple.

What Christians need to see is that the tabernacle, the temple, and all the furnishing therein were types and shadows of the real temple in Heaven – the Heavenly Sanctuary described in the epistle to the Hebrews, and most importantly, the Mercy Seat which is in Heaven.

So here is what we find in the epistle to the Hebrews:

1. Christ is our High Priest in Heaven, according to the unique and unchangeable *order of Melchizedek*.

2. Christ offered one sacrifice for sins forever on the Cross, corresponding to the Day of Atonement.

3. Christ has entered into the true Most Holy Place (the true Tabernacle), which is in Heaven itself.

4. Christ has entered the Most Holy Place and sprinkled His blood on the heavenly Mercy Seat.

5. Because of the blood of Christ, we can now enter boldly into the very presence of God through Christ.

6. The Heavenly Sanctuary and the blood of Christ are the guarantee of the eternal security of the believer.

The Ark of the Covenant was a box … Above the Ark was the Mercy Seat … two cherubims were placed at each end of the Mercy Seat … Exodus 25 gives us the details. The two tablets (tables) of stone with the Ten Commandments were within the Ark, as well as the golden pot of manna, and Aaron’s rod which budded. (emboldened GE)

The golden pot of manna and Aaron’s rod were outside in front of the ark which contained only the two tables of the Ten Commandments. Hebrews 9:4 says they were in the tabernacle, as says Numbers 17:8-10 "before the ark/coffin of the Testimony / Law". The ark and Law meant the honourable Death and Burial of Jesus Crucified and Killed in the 'coffin' or 'ark' under the mercy seat in the Presence of the Almighty. The budding rod meant "This Jesus God..." in his grave, "RAISED UP Lord and Christ..." from among the dead out of death, up, to "at the right hand of God : His Heavenly Majesty far above every Name..." far above even every Name his Name before God had Raised Him up and "exalted Him" : "BY THE ALL-EXCEEDING GREATNESS OF HIS POWER".

The Greatest Event the universe has ever seen - far greater than God's creating act -, was the Son of God's Conquest, Triumph and Exaltation by Resurrection from death, the dead, and grave, up, to "at the right hand of God, His Heavenly Majesty, far above every Name" - even every Name his, before God had Raised Him up "BY THE ALL-EXCEEDING GREATNESS OF HIS POWER".

Sorry, but that is NOT what is stated in Hebrew 9:4:
Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [IN WHICH] was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant...

Sorry, but that is NOT what is stated in Hebrew 9:4:
Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [IN WHICH] was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant...

I had this same conversation with your Bob Ryan, years ago. And both of you, like all SDA, reject two clear things about this issue. A. You simply disregard what is written in Numbers. B. You disregard, no, you never even notice, that it is only in the NT in Hebrews where and WHEN it is so distinctly stated as here in 9:4 QUOTED by yourself, yet read by yourself for what YOU LIKE to read instead of what is actually WRITTEN. And why? That, you don't and you won't say, because you parrot your SOP prophetess in this!

Now read that which is written, and don't smear it over with purplish blue whatever bold and TRUTH-obscuring!
"And after the second veil THE TABERNACLE WHICH IS CALLED THE HOLIEST WHICH HAD the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, WHEREIN [IN WHICH] was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant."

"which" is a Demonstrative Relative Pronoun relating and pointing to "the tabernacle" "which" contained these according to Numbers Numbers 17:8-10 separate and separated items, "(A)the golden pot that had manna, and (B)Aaron's rod that budded, and (C)the tables of the covenant" the only item in the "ark/coffin".

But the important issue here, is WHY you SDA do this twisting and corrupting to the real facts stated in this Scripture? BECAUSE you must blur, obscure, erase Christ's RESURRECTION as distinct and distinctly significant IN ITS OWN RIGHT. You - SDAism - smother Jesus' blossoming New Life and BURY it with the LAW in the coffin of DEATH. Like ONLY SDAism is able to do! You even resurrected this ark of the covenant in heaven and make Christ its minister and his blood its cleansing medium; you far surpass Roman Catholic cultist blood ritualism.

I had this same conversation with your Bob Ryan, years ago. And both of you, like all SDA, reject two clear things about this issue.
1. First of all I am not SDA so your rant means nothing to me. Stick to the Bible facts.

2. Secondly Scripture does not contradict itself. לִפְנֵ֣י lip̄-nê, which has been translated as "before" in the KJV, has many meanings. It is derived from panah, which means "face". So the verse in Heb 9:4 actually clarifies the location of the pot of manna and Aaron's rod -- within the Ark. And almost all commentators agree that it was within the Ark.

"Some, in order to remove it, observe, that the phrase, "wherein", refers not to the ark, but to the tabernacle; but since the tables of the covenant were in the ark, and these are mentioned with it, and the phrase, "over it", in the next verse, cannot be understood of the tabernacle, but of the ark, this solution is not satisfactory." John Gill

Inside the ark were the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. Berean Study Bible

3. You are calling the Ark of the Covenant a coffin which shows how little you understand about its significance. Would God have golden cherubims placed over a coffin and call the top of it *the Mercy Seat*? Would God display His glory above a coffin? Would God set aside a special day -- the Day of Atonement -- to have a coffin sprinkled with blood seven times? Would God call the blood of Christ *the blood of sprinkling* on the Mercy Seat if it displayed a coffin?

Your remarks show that you are ignorant of this subject, and also specialize in attacking Seventh Day Adventism when your beliefs are not totally Scriptural.

While I would digress somewhat in some particulars, I 'liked' this post because it touches on a subject so often neglected and not appreciated. Thanks for bringing it up.

There are some who claim that the Ark of the Covenant is on earth.

There are others who claim that it has been lost, and needs to be found.

But the New Testament tells us, 2Peter 3:16, that

the ark was the like figure (of the Gospel of Jesus Christ)

wherein eight souls in the days of Noah were

SAVED as through watery

(grave, which, ‘presently in Heaven’, provides

answer of a good conscience toward God" :

"for Christ indeed hath once

SUFFERED FOR SINS,

the Just for the unjust,

that He might bring us to God,

HAVING BEEN PUT TO DEATH

(having been Crucified and Killed by us;

(but BURIED “in the shadow of the Almighty” “in the flesh”)

He was quickened by the Spirit

his flesh having seen no corruption In Death

God having Quickened Him by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

WHO IS GONE INTO HEAVEN

(and ‘presently’)

is CHRIST on the Right Hand of God"—

our "Intercessor" and "Mediator", our “Confidence”, “our Peace” and “Place of Refuge”—our “Ark of the Covenant” and “Rest of God”.

The “ark” was not “the temple of God opened in heaven” (Rev 11;19); God in Full Fellowship of Father, Son and Holy Spirit opened the “Ark of His Testimony” “when there were lightnings, and thunderings, and a great earth-quake, and, Behold! the angel of the Lord from heaven descending cast the stone from Jesus’ ark-TOMB and sat on it” in earth’s time, “Late on the Sabbath Day in the mid-afternoon before the First Day of the week.

Yes, as you say, ‘Scripture does not contradict itself’, although a word

has many meanings’, as you say. Good observation!

So, while it is true one word, like you pointed out, ‘panah’, ‘which means "face"’ at root, nevertheless ‘has many meanings’, WHY should the KJ not have used “before” but should have used ‘within’ like you do, instead?

And ‘stru’s bob, ‘panah’ is derived from panah, which means "face". So the verse in Hebrews 9:4 actually clarifies the location of the pot of manna and Aaron's rod, “FACING” the ark! Yet you insist it ‘within the Ark “faced” the ark’! Ridiculous!

And almost all commentators’ you can name and who, you say, ‘agree’—with you, you claim, ‘agree that it’, the pot ‘n rod, were ‘within the Ark’. Funny!

Re: ‘"Some, in order to remove it, observe, that the phrase, "wherein", refers not to the ark, but to the tabernacle; but since the tables of the covenant were in the ark, and these are mentioned with it, and the phrase, "over it", in the next verse, cannot be understood of the tabernacle, but of the ark, this solution is not satisfactory."

John Gill’s like a fish trying to breath on earth in this case (as in many other cases). Gills claims, ‘the tables of the covenant were in the ark, and these (tables) are mentioned with it (the rod)’, AS IF ‘the tables of the covenant are mentioned with the rod within the ark’, which, plainly is either shamefully erroneous or scandalously fraudulent. I loath Gills’ conversation.

Re: ‘Inside the ark were the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.

The ‘Berean Study Bible’ is an insult to the Bereans.

Re: ‘You are calling the Ark of the Covenant a coffin ... Would God have golden cherubims placed over a coffin and call the top of it *the Mercy Seat*?

Yes.

Would God display His glory above a coffin?

That’s what He did. Both in the earthly and heavenlys, Jesus Christ in both.

Would God set aside a special day -- the Day of Atonement -- to have a coffin sprinkled with blood seven times?

Yes.

Would God call the blood of Christ *the blood of sprinkling* on the Mercy Seat if it displayed a coffin?

Yes.

Your remarks show that you are ignorant of this subject

No. They show you still have to start, knowing this subject.

Your remarks show that you specialize in attacking Seventh Day Adventism when your beliefs are not totally Scriptural.’

While quite affronted, you insisted, ‘First of all I am not SDA’, are you now apologising that Seventh Day Adventism’s beliefs are Scriptural ? That’s strange…

No – the Ark in Heaven is MARY, Mother of Christ.

Contrary to popular opinion - the Bible was not written in Chapter and Verse. Every Book of the Bible was written as a long, continuous letter. Chapter and verse weren’t added by the Catholic Church until the Middle Ages.

In the Book of Revelation, we see the Ark of the New Covenant in Heaven being spoken of at the very end of Chapter 11, verse 19:
Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the Ark of his Covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.

The very next verse is in Chapter 12 (Rev 12:1):
A great sign appeared in the sky, a WOMAN clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Verse 2 says: She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. We know that this child is Jesus because in verse 4, we read: She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.

Why would the Old Ark be represented here if Jesus completely fulfilled the Law (Matt. 5:17- 20)?
The Old Ark contained mere symbols of God’s power, whereas the New Ark carried GOD Himself.

The Bible is VERY clear in its comparisons to the Ark and Mary:
- The Ark traveled to the house of Obed-Edom in the hill country of Judea (2 Sam 6:1-11)
- Mary traveled to the house of Elizabeth and Zachariah in the hill country of Judea (Lk 1:39)

- David, dressed as a priest danced and leaped in front of the ark. (2 Sam 6:14)
- John the Baptist (of priestly lineage) leaped in his mother's womb before Mary (Lk 1:41)

- David asks, "How can the ark of the Lord come to me?" (2 Sam 6:9)
- Elizabeth asks "Who am I, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" (Lk 1:43)

- The Ark remained in the house of Obed-Edom three months (2 Sam 6:11)
- Mary remained in the house of Elizabeth three months (Lk 1:56)

- The Ark contained the urn of manna, the bread from heaven
- Mary’s womb carried Jesus, the Bread of Life.

- On the Day of the Dedication of the Temple which Solomon built, there were 120 priestspresent (2 Chron. 5:11). The Ark of the Covenant was carried into the Temple (2 Chron. 5:7)and fire came down from Heaven to consume the burnt offering (2 Chron. 7:7).
- On the Day of Pentecost, there were 120 disciples of Jesus (priests) present in the Upper Room (Acts 1:15). Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the Ark of the NEW Covenant was also present while the Holy Spirit came down as tongues of fire (Acts 2:3).

There is NO getting around the fact that the Ark in Heaven is MARY . . .
