How far would a person who preaches and practices non-violence go in participating in acts of violence against something which he neither fears nor hates?

That’s got to be a strong candidate in the category of “non sequitur of the year.”

It’s entertainment but it’s more than just entertainment.

I’ve spent decades dealing with people who seldom, if ever, read the Bible. They get their theology from movies and television. After viewing, they don’t search the scriptures to see if what they were told is true or not.

This is a point which I made earlier in the thread.

It's okay, its nothing like the bible though. The Spiritual things that come about, and the growing and maturing, through words are pretty powerful especially when it comes through that method, rather than watching. Cause your reading actual words, and that was how everything is conveyed today, through words, so which more powerful? The words of the entertainment industry, or the words of the Bible itself it seems to boil down to, at least for my opinion anyway, which could be right or could be wrong.

Love to you,
Matthew

Classic straw man.
WRONG. Strawman weakens the argument. You've made no argument. You admitted you don't debate. You just ask fear filled questions AS IF that is determinant.

Repeat this sentence. The cost of people watching shows about the Bible is ....

As for theology, I find a lot of the theology expressed here to be utter garbage. Here's the theology we need. Love God, obey his commandments, and love one another. That's it.

You have.

You admitted you don't debate.

That seems to be about the only thing I’ve said that has gotten through to you.

You just ask fear filled questions AS IF that is determinant.

Repeat the answer - the lives of the people who get their theology from watching shows and don’t search the scriptures to see whether or not what they were told is true.

Do you believe genuine believers would only glean their understanding from a show? I think it would be the other way round.

A genuine believer should be a Berean.

The question I would ask is: can a genuine believer not be a Berean?

Patrick this is so silly, yet reminds me of how Jesus said to become like little children.

Kids aren't egotistical and are really good at forgiveness. We lose that as we age. Jesus is going to transform us so that we again have those characteristics. We can't do that for ourselves.

So if someone searches the Scriptures daily they are not allowed to watch the show?

Anyone who wants to watch the show and has the necessary technology available to do so can watch the show. I suppose other restrictions might be applicable.

Who ultimately bears responsibility for the plight of these people?

Is it the people who are involved in presenting a fictionalized Jesus in television programs and movies or is it the viewers of the presentation?

Stupid auto correct. I meant to ask you to complete the sentence. The cost of people watching shows about the Bible is ....

Yup.

Friend, where we disagree is the danger and cause of danger. The danger does not come from people imperfectly spreading the Word of God. We are all guilty as charged.

I watched a vid a few months back about the oral message. Most people throughout history, including today, are exposed to the Bible in hearing it. Despite people today having the ability to read and the widespread access to books, most people STILL don't read - on any topic.

Many times I watch something that inspires me to read the book. Just this weekend, I watched the great film Oppenheimer, which is based on the book American Prometheus. I now want to read the book. But that is me. Some people are lost and will remain lost and there is nothing we can do about it. And the reason is they do not seek the truth. It has nothing to do with how imperfectly story tellers and artists work product is.

I have never heard of the book American Prometheus before. My idea of what it is about is from the film. Only a fool could think any art work IS the reality it represents. I know the film Jaws is based on a book by the same title. Never interested in reading it. The film was good enough for me. Star Wars? I've read 28 books. Again, most people don't know any truth - not just theological truth - because they don't seek it. Doing so is an internal thing. There is nothing we can do for the damned, for those who damn themselves. This truth is humbling but there it is.

I’ve spent decades working with the fools to help them become wise.

You know Matthias. After reading your many posts, I am tempted to commit suicide out of fear that I might lead someone astray.

Fortunately, I reject your fear out of faith I have for God and his Anointed.

We know. You've stated many times how you've foolishly wasted so much of your life, becoming a bitter and resentful soul.

You call these people fools and flatter yourself that you are responsible for their transformation to become wise. You accomplis this despite the awful effects of art on their foolish understanding. A toast to your glory!
