It's surprisingly good. I started watching as a complete skeptic expecting the worst.... call me cynical when it comes to these dramatic interpretations, but then I was taken in by the portrayals, character development and the humor, --the story. I watched each episode of two seasons always wondering if the next one would be the one where things would go silly and sideways. It never really happened.
If you have had the misfortune of reading any or all of the Left Behind series of books by (the late) Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins you might appreciate what I mean by things getting silly. This Chosen series is produced by Jerry Jenkins son- Dallas. In all honesty I thought it was going to be awful. It hasn't been (so far). I've shared it with many, it's that good.

It made me feel like it was a false gospel and I know the Bible is truth, and the truth should be enough, so I didn't feel right about it.
I'm also not judging anyone who didn't have that conviction. Just mine personally.

Pretty much the whole thing.
It's a work of fiction inspired by the Bible, which is fine. All throughout history, the most famous man in history was inspiration for tons and tons of literature.
But I didn't want to be more entertained or confuse myself with a work of fiction than the truth.
And honestly I know with my brain I could easily accidentally mix the Bible stories with the TV show stories, and we don't want that happening.

I think I understand what you are saying- you are worried that a show about the Bible, based on Bible stories will get mixed up with Bible stories found.... in... the... Bible.

Each to their own! One might think that it would be easy for you to pull a specific example or two that you took particular exception to, but.... maybe not.

For Xmas, I got a painting of the iconic scene where Mary collapsed into Jesus. Extra-biblical scene in Season 1 where Jesus quoted Is 43:1. She went by the name Lilith in her demon possessed life. Ready to kill herself, a man at the bar put his hand gently over hers when her the strong drink she ordered was put in front of her. The man compassionately said, 'this is not for you.'
She left the bar, beside herself. The man left the bar and called "Mary, I call you by name and claim you as mine." It was a powerful scene as that scroll of Isaiah was very important in her personal life experience. It always brings tears to my eyes when I recall the scene.

It's a story about a story. I find it odd when people say that a telling of a Bible story "doesn't ring true" to them. I guess you could say the same about Moses and his telling of how creation came about. They are stories, ya know? Even if they are "true stories" the biblical accounts are still someone's telling of a story. Not literal, moment by moment, accurate in every detail. (this should set some folks off). The series is intended as entertainment with a purpose-- to entertain, yes-- but also to instill a certain sense of curiosity about the gospels, as an introduction to them for millions upon millions who have little or no familiarity, or as an interesting take or recap for those who might be very familiar. It's not intended to be a word for word, thought for thought 'reenactment' of the King James version or any such thing.
It would be like putting a rescue mutt in a dog show for Poodles--- that's not the prize he's after. He has other value.
I get what you're saying and it wasn't that the story itself din't ring true, because I know it is, but I just couldn't get my head around the modern feel to it - and it was that which I felt didn't ring true. But then we are all individuals
