That verse is not saying the old covenant ended with John
What ended was the law and prophets speaking about the kingdom at hand..................[Mat 11:13 KJV] 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
Jesus didnt end the old covenant either........[Mat 5:17 KJV] 17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

again what we have here is a failure to communicate .

Try reading hebrews . He puts away THE FIRST
that HE may establish THE SECOND .
JESUS DID FULLFILL THE LAW and the PROPHETS
WHO I might add PROPHESIED OF HIM and things HE WOULD DO .

WHEN THEY should have SOUGHT THE HEAVENLY , THAT KINGDOM , HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS .

Yes, they would not be made complete without us, ie, complete in Christ, like we are. Christ and His new covenant is that "something better", the promise that hadn't come for them yet. And if we can see it, this passage also lets us know that "we" and "they" are one....they are "not without us".

So why did God make them in the first place and not all together in the first century. I think you are missing details of God`s purpose for them. The OT saints are promised the city, (Heb. 11: 16) whereas we, the Body of Christ have been promised the throne - Christ`s own throne in the highest. (Rev. 3: 21. Eph. 1: 20 - 22)

Read Hosea.
Gomer represents the Jewish wife.
Read Ruth.
The Gentile bride and Ruth inherit together.
Boaz representing Jesus.

The last supper VIVIDLY illustrated the Jewish proposal and betrothal covenant between the groom and his bride.

Matt 25 is a VIVID portrayal of the wedding between Jesus and his bride/church.

The first miracle of Jesus incarnation was at a wedding.
The last thing with his church/ betrothed bride on earth is a gathering to a wedding.

The church is the bride of Christ.
Let no man unvert it, or pervert it.

All to do with Israel. What happened to the `New Man,` becoming the `Perfect Man?` (Eph. 2: 15 4: 13)

The Holy City is AS, yes, AS, a symbol, NOT real. It has the glory of God on it. And the people in that city are the OT saints. for they were promised it. (Heb. 11: 16) We, however, the Body of Christ, are promised the very throne of Christ in the highest. (Rev. 3: 21 4: 2 - 4)

`Let no one defraud you of your reward....` (Col. 2: 18)

`I press towards the goal of the prize of the on top calling of God in Christ Jesus.` (Phil. 3: 14)
