I am no expert in Greek, but sometimes it can be helpful to see the meaning in translation and other places the same word is used.

Moderation, as used in that verse as per Strong's:

It is certainly not equal to the word you cited in Joel:

(This is how my thoughts have been going, anyway...)

Oh yeah the emptiness for sure.

But there's a lot of gifts put here for us, while we're waiting.
We got babies, and grandma's and grandpa's, and friends, and coworkers.
We got yummy things like warm bread and butter..
don't forget the popcorn..
Yup, popcorn and Onion rings, and chocolatte mousse, and strawberry shortcake..

Now there's only one true place to find true comfort and joy and peace,
and you got that right, it's with the Lord.
But he didn't keep us here without a whole lot of love and happiness either.
It's when this world's happiness is greater than Jesus' happiness,
Then we need to change the course.

Of course!
The awesome thing is we can have a bit of both.. everthing in moderation.
9 parts Jesus and 1 part of those gifts he gave us here on earth. :)

Many married men or many families these days were shocked of being put into devil temptation, and many of those who lack of faith in Christ ruin their own lives and took the path of destruction into divorce. This was not the purpose of God's love, even Adam & Eve seems forbid by God because they'd divorced (Genesis 3:15).
So, before you get into married make sure you both have a strong commitment to God & know each other shortcoming, treat your husband or wife as the precious gift from the Lord God because God did really hate divorce (Malachi 2:10-16; Mark 10:9).

I'm having trouble understanding what you mean.

Pandering is the act of expressing one's views in accordance with the likes of a group to which one is attempting to appeal.

If someone kisses other peoples butt who claim to be offended about anything under the sun, too much,
then one is really allowing "extremism" to dictate the agenda.

Is that the anything goes as long as you stay my friend.. kind of?

Then thats not being a true friend is it?
Friends are supposed to walk with you and help lift you up when you are down,
or kick the pedestal from under you if you get too high.
People need to rely on other people to tell them the truth when they are wrong.
But it should be done with love and not accusatory..or snottiness comes to mind. stuck up.

I have a question..
My ex mother-in-law loves talking about her sons. She has two and one is my ex.
When she calls me, he always seems to slip in the conversation, and even though I really really rather not
talk about him, I listen and I make general comments, nothing specific. Because she likes talking about her sons.
Now sometimes.. I get _____________ (somebody fill in the word I'm looking for) , because I really don't want to talk about him.
But I don't want to hurt her feelings and tell her that.
What do I do?

I heard someone break down the Gospels a long time ago.
Matthew had it's certain message, and Mark, Luke, John.
Some reason I remember the idea that Luke was known as the physician because he wrote alot about Jesus' ministery of healing.

You ever just all of a sudden smell something like butterscotch and all of a sudden you have all these memories about,
eating ice cream with butterscotch topping, and how dad used to take you to the sundae shop and and..
Thats like the Bible to me.
Something just all of a sudden smells like Luke and then the physician.. and I don't know why that happens.

Good point. It's in Eph 2:2. The following are great verses!

It's interesting comparing the Hebrew and the Greek words.
I know neither one. I'm still working on English.
It's like that treasure Jesus talks about, the old and the new.

Seeing the way your mind was moving I also looked the word up again, and the first verse I saw was from Judges. It came in a song sung by Deborah, a married woman, who was a prophetess, and a judge over Israel (Judges 4:4), during that period when everyone did what was right in their own eyes (Judges 17:6).

* God raised up judges during this period of time in Israel's history, not only to lead, but to restore back to God the nation who departed so frequently from the Lord. They restored the authority of the law in what was a dangerous time when anarchy and lawlessness abounded. A time rather like today really, when the standards of God's word are being despised and ignored.

* Israel had done evil in the sight of God, and had been taken into captivity by a Canaanite King (Judges 4:1). Deborah's song was sung when they were delivered out of his hand.

* The verse I found was Judges 5:20, 'They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.'

* It is strange that I should find myself here with Sisera again, for earlier this week I found myself having to look up the story of how he was killed, because of something said on a programme on the television. Within this song the woman who was responsible for his death is praised, for she played her part in the deliverance of her people (Judges 5:24-27; Judges 4:17-21).

* Your verses referred to in your OP, from Ephesians shows how we who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ were delivered from Satan, and the bondage of sin and death, for we too were at the mercy of the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. We needed deliverance, and it took God's intervention for that to be achieved, in and through the sacrificial work of His Beloved Son.

(you have to watch out for these guys and gals in the bible. I noticed once they get your attention they tend to follow you around.
John the Baptist, he's been around almost every corner I turn some how. I don't know how he knows where I'm going, but he always seems to get there before me. )

I got sidetracked a bit and rode a couple other trains in the forum.
I think.. and this is just what I think,
Jesus came to set things back on course just like Deborah.
We wondered so far from God's grace and mercy, we was on the course of no return.
And for awhile things were looking ok, but they went through some really hard battles.
I don't know my history too well about the crusades and the knight templars and all that.
I know a lot of babes in christ got treated very badly, killed even.
But God is good, he always saves a remnant to carry onward Christian soldier... oh oh..
And there are a remnant to of the original branches clinging to that root, just like us christians.
Somewhere along the line I think the Bible says that some people grab the tail or sleeves of other's jackets,
or pants belts and climb a mountain together.

And that's where the Lion and the Lamb rest together.. I think..

I'm trying to be quiet and talk softly today... we supposed to be resting..
I never did like naps as a kid. My mom said so... looks like she was right. ;)

Most of the first references have to do with the armies of Israel and the Priests
in their courses. Like shifts.
I work 1st shift. and there are usually 12 courses. like monthly shifts.
That reminds me of Zachariah who was working in the temple when Gabriel showed up and gave him a message about John.... (hello John)

Hello @Ziggy,

Looking at the Scripture above, again with the word, 'course', within it. My mind is seeing this as a set course, upon which each (Paul [above], the 'stars' of Judges 5:20 and the 'world' of Ephesians 2:1-3) are following. Paul's course was not a course of his own making, the stars were set on their course by God Himself, and the world is on a course also, one which God by His foreknowledge has foreseen and recorded in the Scriptures for our learning.

Not to derail the thread..
I just had a thought..
You don't ever run out of those do ya?

There is a thread in I forget what catagory, maybe prophecy .. i dunno
And it talks about all the rioting and the divisions and chaos..
And I was thinking,
They closed all the churches. They don't want us to come together, to be able to console each other.
They lock us in our houses or at least prevent us from worshipping together.
So what do people do? They go to forums to find people to talk to and congregate with.
But you know, a lot of people got the world on their shoulders, so they tend to bring those anxieties
into the conversations. Not intentionally, it's just running in the background.
And the powers that be that don't want us being joyful, are probably hoping we will tear eachother up
from the inside. Inside the forums. Making it even harder to reach out, because no one wants to go where
people are (not debating) but personal attacks and arguing.
I don't think anyone intends to, it's just hard to seperate from the cares around you.
Specially if you don't live alone like I do, and have no distractions..
you need to do this, you need to go there..
And we get impatient with each other.

Early evening last night I got to thinking..
mm hmm..

Now I'm not Jewish but I have an online Ministry I go to now and then called the Corner Fringe. And that is a Judeo-Christian Church.
I never been to one in person so I thought I'd check it out, and I feel real comfortable with the Pastor.
Anyways..
I been having that same battle most do about the Sabbath. What day, any day, everyday... for as long as I can remember.
I studied it kind of hard for awhile. I found that God has a purpose for everything and it wasn't time to "figure it out" yet.
Maybe I'll start another thread about where I'm at with that right now. That's a really deep topic and it effects most people different ways.

So last night... I was thinking what can we do to help unite the church rather than divide it like they are trying to do.
Music...
A place to just sit and relax and enjoy.
A "Hiding Place" away from all the distractions..
Then it hit me... like a hammer even..;)
God's Sabbath is our hiding place.
And so I wanted to create a place we could all hide together,
Kind of like that upper room the Apostles was hiding in.

So.. that thought I just had..
we have to overcome the world. Not with violence but with love.
We need to stick together and not rend it apart.
I see what they are doing. That devil is sneaky. And will use whatever and wherever to divide people
from coming together.
I don't want to give him that opportunity if I can help it, if we can help it.
For most of us, this is all we got. A monitor with people we can't see, we can't talk to face to face, we can't hug

So I started the Shabbat Shalom thread as a place we can find solace and comfort when it gets rough.
Please add to it, make it grow. Every voice every genre every type of music is welcome.
A place we can all share together .. In HIM.

I just wanted to share my thoughts and concerns.
I'm just one speck of sand in an ocean..
And we all together are those waters of many peoples nations and tongues,
who stand before the Lord and cry HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!
