Hi there,
So this was something of a mystery until now: the Devil gets around the Law, by provoking God to do more than necessary. It is not that the Devil has no purpose and is ready to lose - he is personally aware that God desires only to humble Himself, that everything that God creates, is an opportunity to destroy (especially those things that would otherwise have been taken up by men, to the Glory of God). The Devil realises, that he doesn't have to destroy God, but that if he destroys the reputation of God, then His Creation in Men will be scattered (and the Devil can feast, in flagrant disregard for the will of God). This is a spiritual function, and a spiritual snare. If in sin, we agree with the Devil, then we bring destruction on ourselves. The Devil does not care for this.
So what does the Devil care for? Only that the perfection of the Will of God that he has facetiously asked for, not be found out! If he can ask for the will of God in private, the Devil believes he can destroy the fruit of the Will of God openly. It is a facade, a travesty - the Devil literally does not care if the entire will of God is wasted, if he can have snared Creation on the basis of it, ignorance or not, then he is able to list away from the fear of God, to take as he likes. That is the end goal for the Devil, he does not care if the Will of God is destroyed at all - indeed, he will complain if the Will of God is unknown to him and make all sorts of reparations to get the Will of God back, precisely so that he can destroy and continue to destroy it.
Why don't we ask God to give the Devil hope of some other kind? God cannot lie. If God says something is in His Will, then whether the Devil advances it or the Devil destroys it, it is still the Will of God. This is a sobering thought. We cannot think of greater wisdom, than the Devil, as far as the World is concerned, for this is the World of the god of this World - the Devil has already asked for the World, we are prisoners of that wisdom, as long as we are in it (in the World). But are we better than the Devil's wisdom? Only if we surpass in the Will of God, to get beyond it. The Lord is the Door, we still have a chance to leave, with our hopes and sanity and spirit in tact. God will not give the Devil the perfection or wisdom of it, to the Devil to snare again those who are now beyond the World. Those beyond the World are at Peace.
Is it the case then, that some will escape and some will be snared? That is precisely the problem, that the Lord Jesus spoke about: "narrow is the path to life, and there are few that find it" (gospels, from memory). We must always be mindful that the Devil will not let us leave this World, without parting with the substance of the things we accrued while in it. The Devil is at peace with this, but only in part, because to be constantly against God, is hard work! The Day will come, when the Devil and the World will have to part with the things they accrued while together, only God in Faith will be able to tell whether He has received praise for what He has Created, in this life! That means no praising ourselves, but also, no way for anyone to steal our peace! There is a great lesson in this (it is hard to imagine the Lord being so worthy of Praise, but He is!).
I hope you have been encouraged by these thoughts.
God bless.
