Is the devil of the old testament and the new testament the same person or being? Or are they two different versions of the same being? If yes why? If not why? I have always been curious about this matter. I await some replies.

kind regards John Stefan
The Hebrews didn't know of a devil as we understand today. They knew of the Shatan which we today call Satan. The Shatan however was not seen as the evil one; he was seen as a prosecutor the same way we see a prosecutor in court. His role was to bring out the truth. The Shatan translated Satan in the Old Testament is only mentioned three times.

It was Jesus who enlightened us to who this being is. Jesus is responsible for aligning the Shatan with the Devil.
The Hebrews had the view that God is responsible for both good and evil as is clear from OT writings.

We know today from the words of Jesus and the writings of the apostles that God is light and in him is no darkness at all.
