mark, I would like to respond with clarity to you but it appears by your defensiveness you are not ready to hear an explanation. You are arguing against an explanation before you hear it.

As to your first question, re 'fulcrum', Jesus is the pivot point by which all scripture must be interpreted by. This means we are to listen and understand what he said and meant. If we miss it, religious folk automatically revert to OT logic/ explanations to justify the 'old wine' ie, a faulty teaching and understanding of the nature of God.
