Just for reference, Jesus said "let these go their way" AFTER they had recovered from falling backward, and He asked again. The men falling backward was not therefore give opportunity for Jesus' disciples to run away.

Personally I think there is power in God's Word, and when Jesus spoke, they experienced that power.

How did the people know they were being taught incorrectly since
they were not allowed to read the bible?

Luther was a guilt-ridden man who found no solace in knowing God.
He felt he had sinned too much and was never secure in his salvation.

He finally thought that there was only one way to find comfort:
Blame everything on God.
Stop believing that good works are necessary for salvation.
Obeying God is just too difficult.
The solution: FAITH ALONE.

Problem is that faith alone is not a biblical teaching and due to Luther,,,
many will end up without God due to their belief that they could sin and live as they
want to and still be saved.

We now have over 30 thousand or so denominations.
The Reformation worked out just fine, didn't it?

Now we don't even know what the truth is.
Who believes in OSAS,,,
who doesn't.

If I believe I need to obey God,,it's referred to, disparagingly, as works salvation.
I do believe that all Jesus taught is about doing good works.
Ditto for Paul, but Paul is a little more difficult to comprehend. Especially to us, here in the west,
in the year 2026. The Jews knew what he meant...but we miss a lot.

Some believe we have to be baptized...

Some believe in confessing sins...(the Protestant way)
