Don't forsake the scriptures, but remember: It is the word that is alive and working in you. Every born again believer, has a basis on what they believe. They get a basis .. based on a basic truth they have decided to follow in scripture. In Christianity we call it a foundation! The thing about a sure foundation is; you still have to build on a foundation.
Example; what I believe about the cross, what I believe about salvation or the trinity or not, what I believe about the old testament verse the new, what I believe about this and what I believe about that. How I put scripture together based on the basic truth of what is in written word of God!
Now the main pull of humanity is to be a spiritual person. Even the worse of the worse, in the world, sometimes will have a cross around their neck or some religious ornate garb. So humanity is basically spiritual in nature. We see things like ghosts, and spirits, and every culture has some kind of an elusive creature the roams in the dark of nite, all manner of superstitions. Some see Jesus in a cloud or as it has been shown, even in food. So humanity is quite the spiritual being, at least spiritual in an acting way, acting out what seems spiritual!
What I believe should be the vehicle of carrying me to somewhere else, to another place in God. How does that work in me? by the word in me. Understanding the word in me, what should I come to in understanding the word in me? That it was the scriptures that led me to know the word.. the word in me. The compatible life of knowledge (a knowing) in Christ. The compatible life by the renewing of the mind to the word in me. The two become one in spirit and truth. By the word in you, you learn to not trust what you believe but whom you have believed.
How do you learn to trust in whom you believed as the basis of your understanding. The scripture, the scriptures, you believe the scriptures that have shed the glorious light of the gospel, who is the person of the word. When we say our gospel is a person, we are saying Christ is all. We can only say that by Christ who is our life. If we still have a life of our own, the word is still working in you. We still live under the types and shadows of what is actually real now. Still trying to be a spiritual being, when the spiritual being is complete. So acting to be what we already are by Christ in you is the pressure of this life in this world! Galatians 4:1-2.
