There's nothing like a little patriotism to cloud the eye and fog the mind.

As for me, I get a little choked up when Jimminey Cricket sings "When You Wish Upon A Star".

When You Wish Upon A Star
-Walt Disney corporation

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true

The lyrics are humanist rubbish I admit, but its got a sweet melody.

I personally believe that "When You Wish Upon A Star" is BETTER than the Star Spangled Banner.
It doesn't cause people to sacrifice the lives of their sons and daughters for a fantasy.

If you want to get inspired about something that is truly worth dying for, then sing a psalm unto God.
He, at least, will appreciate the effort. Uncle Sam won't.

PS
(I am a veteran who suffered a disability as a result of military service. If you are offended, I don't care. Wake UP.)

In no way do I intend to diminish the young lady's innocent intention. Nor those that were compelled to overcome the tech difficultly.

But it pales in comparison to the Pledge of Allegations

There's nothing like a little patriotism to cloud the eye and fog the mind.

There does appear to be and has been a movment to equate patriotism with Godliness. Cloud the eye is a perfect metaphor.

There's nothing wrong with patriotism as long as it does not become an idol nor does it violate any of God's principles, Romans 13 makes that clear.

I've lived in the US over half a century. The US I knew for many years is rapidly disappearing, making way for the World Government soon to come. God's Word is truly alive!

I agree. If we are not looking at a world government, then perhaps we are seeing the beginning of a major player that we haven't seen before. An Islamic caliphate?

I was a kid in the 50's and attended college in the late 60's; interesting years to be alive.
Today I work at a local college. Last fall we had a big meeting of all faculty and staff. The breakfast was catered and featured a local oldies band.

That morning I sat next to a colleague who I normally respect.
On that occasion he expressed disrespect for the type of music being played as well as the attitude of affection many of us have for 'the good old days'. He isn't a kid either, but he does represent a group of people who are more, I shall say 'progressively liberal' in their thinking.

The USA I knew and grew up in is dead and gone. Once upon a time in the dim mists of my memory, America was something special. It had been my hope that our way of life could have been passed on to my children, but now I fear that ideal has been lost.

My wife and I have taught our children to respect and worship God, not the flag.
That much, at least, remains a solid rock upon which to base one's life.

What is a flag? What is the American flag? What is the Stars and Stripes?
Long ago, when I wore a uniform, it was a banner I could look at in a foreign country thousands of miles from home with pride and affection. To my mind it stood for more than abstract ideals. It stood for my community, my family and some part of me. It used to be OUR flag. It used to be MY flag.

I honestly don't know who owns the American flag any more.
It sure as hell isn't us and I'm certainly not going to salute it any more until I find out who does.

It was actually the greedy bastards of the generation before it that led to where the USA is today. Yes, your parents and grandparents.

Everyone hopped on FDR's socialist bandwagon back in the day and now we see just how much "free" stuff ends up costing.

That even counts for the morality decline. When the government becomes your provision and reliance... God is minimized.

So I have no sympathy, really, for "the good old days". A more accurate term would be the "self-centered" days.

First of all I am very proud to be an American. I was born on a Marine Corp base and my people have served this country well.

"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." - Matthew 24:12

It's not the fault of the United States that.... because of iniquity... the love of the people is growing cold. If you want to disdain a group of people try the Democratic party, American Atheists, Civil Liberties union, and the likes for doing their part in promoting iniquity within our borders. Because the word of God has been taken out of the schools we are seeing generations of heathen roaming the land.

I think what everyone is missing here were the remnants of the previous church ages... Particularly...

Sardis - The decency and elegance of the protestant churches
Philadelphia - The revived nature of the Wesleyan churches.
Laodicea - The evil we are currently seeing... From hot... To lukewarm... To cold.

Remembrances of the Sardisean and Philadelphian church ages...

“I like the old paths, when moms were at home, Christians rejoiced because they had victory, preachers preached from the bible, singers sung from the heart, and sinners turned to the Lord to be saved. A new birth meant a new life, salvation meant a changed life, and following Christ led to eternal life. Now being a preacher meant that you proclaimed the word of God, and being a deacon meant that you would serve the Lord, and being a Christian meant that you would live for Jesus, and being a Sinner meant someone was praying for you. Now the laws were based on the bible, people read the bible, the church taught the bible. Preachers were more interested in converts than in new clothes and new cars. God was worshipped, Christ was exalted, and the Holy Spirit was respected. Churches were where you found Christians on the Lord Day, rather than out in the garden, on the creek bay, on the golf course, or being entertained somewhere else. I still like the old paths best, sisters got married before having children, crime did not pay, hard work did and people knew the difference. Moms could cook, dads would work, and children behave. Husbands were loving, wives were supporting, children were polite. Women wore jewelry and men wore the pants. Women looked like ladies and men looked like gentlemen, and children looked decent. People loved truth and hated a lie; they came to church to get in, not to get out. Hymns sounded Godly, cursing was wicked and divorce was unthinkable. The flag was honored, America was beautiful, and God was welcomed. We read the bible in public, prayed in schools, and preached from house to house. To be called an American was worth dying for, to be called a Christian was worth living for, and to be called a traitor a shame. Sex was a personal word, homosexuality was not mentioned, and abortion an illegal word. “– As heard from Dr. Lowell Davey’s “Perspectives” on bbnradio.org.

bud... Thanks

I was trying to emphasize that this prophecy is close... Christ could return today in which we should all be ready.

What can I say about Lakewood? I know Joel Osteen is a candy man but I can't help like the guy. Definately not your hell, fire, and brimstone evangelist!

Candy man? I can agree with that. Many today teach what people want to hear, your for-sure to be popular in doing so.
People don't want to be reminded that that $50 they just spent on lottery tickets might have been better spent taking some homeless person to Dennys and getting to know them better. Or the $20,000 they just spent on vacation might just change a few peoples lives forever. Those are things people don't want to hear. They want to hear God will reward you with money. When Jesus clearly said He will bring His reward with Him when He returns.

I can not justify wrong doing. John Wesley gave the money he made on his publications back to ministry. Not only Joel but too many preachers are out after the dollar. Definitely Laodicean. Even Billy Graham has made his share of money off publications, and as I said in the video, this all was started with Dwight L Moody, who made a good bit of money off his publications. So I believe there are issues with the American preacher these days all together. Not only Joel, but we could make a long list here.

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. -Ezekiel 22:30

This country needs good evangelist to lead this country to repentance. I see none who are doing this with a pure heart.

Hi rocktopva!

Your national anthem is very stirring and beautiful... it brings a tear to my eye also.

Y'all should be very proud of your country and it's founding father's.

Here's one of my favorite quotes:

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!

- Patrick Henry

Btw...here is where I am from...  :)

You are most welcome!

Some of my friends were extras in Lord of the Rings  :)

It's summertime here at the moment and it is the hottest that it has ever been. Good time for a dip in the ocean, rivers or lakes. There are no wild animals or insects in NZ, only possums and wild boar [pigs] and deer in the bush [forests].

Yeshua Ha Mashiach bless you!

Your parents and grandparents were "greedy bastards"
Yes. It's passive greediness.
Voting people in that promise these things, keeping mouths shut when it's passed, and more than anything: ignoring and pretending a problem does not exist.

This country has been heading to financial ruin since these bills were passed. All the generations before us did was ignore the problem, borrow more money, and let future generations screw with it.

Tell me how it's not greediness?

TexUs... You just called my people greedy bastards? I wish you would have said that before my face! Any chance you can take such communication elsewhere?
Your people and my people. And no, I won't leave, but you can feel free to ignore it.
