Jesus is God (Jehovah/Yahweh) in flesh, I believe. The Jews were worshiping Jehovah/Yahweh long before we were.
Yes, Jesus is God. And to become a Christian we have to surrender to him. So people can worship but without accepting Jesus as Saviour and then continuing to live in God's grace - forgiven and accepted as heirs with Christ,

So what were the Jews supposed to do before Jesus arrived?

You know very well that the Israelites in the bible worshipped God, but often they also worshipped idols which God punished. They did not worship Jesus as Christians do. The did not have that all important personal relationship with God through his Son that we can have today thanks to Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. But they can if they accept Him as their Saviour and Messiah. Jesus is God with us.

The Jews worship Jehovah/Yahweh. Christians worship Jehovah/Yahweh. I wonder why the Lord would favor one over the other.

Because they rejected their Messiah 2000 yrs ago, and are doing it also, right now.

Like this..

Romans 10:3

3 """"For they (The Christ rejecting Jews)... being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God."""""""

= NO Faith in Jesus.

= "For if we sin willfully after we have received the Knowledge..(rejected the Gospel}.... of the Truth... = there remains no more sacrifice for SIN".

Why not?
Because when you are a CHRIST REJECTOR< you are rejecting the only sacrifice for sin that God offers.

I don't think we are supposed to worship Jesus. I think we are supposed to worship our Father in heaven. Isn't that what Jesus wanted us to do?

Jesus taught us to worship our Father in heaven. The Jews were already doing that and they do that still. Just like Christians, some do a better job of it than others.

Believers are to worship God """IN =SPIRIT and in Truth".

The Truth, is JESUS...... who is "The way.. The TRUTH and The LIFE"> John 14:6

To worship God IN Spirit, is not to get on your knees and speak repetitive words into your ceiling, again, as if God is on the roof of your House.
No. !
The only way to = """"worship God, IN SPIRIT""""< is to be born again Spiritually"< and you can't be that one and REJECT JESUS as Messiah.

"You must be BORN AGAIN".. to worship God, "who is A Spirit"......

Unbelievers, be they Jew or gentile, do not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit lives in Christians - Christ within, Immanuel, God with us. But however much a persons 'worships' without that indwelling of the Spirit they don't have that personal relationship with the Father. Whatever name they might give to their God they don't call him Father.

I know many a jewish believer. Who not only profess Christ. But profess the word. (Not just the torah)

you should be careful when you condemn a people
There are many like that here.
It appears the conflict in Israel brings out their true nature as they condemn a people who others have nearly always wanted to exterminate.
