Titus 3:8 (NASB20)
This statement is trustworthy; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and beneficial for people.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though one is not saved by good works, good works are put forth as that which is good and beneficial for one…. The reason being, God can only bless the good, and God would bless His people… For receiving the blessings of God in life are simple, if one would, do righteousness, if one would not, do unrighteousness… For each and every set of circumstances one finds oneself in is an opportunity to receive God’s goodness, if one but would do righteousness in that opportunity….
For own will is that which stands against God’s blessing, doing that which is right by God’s standard or how one would want to repay, the choice to yield to God or stand strong in own will…
Here is where one knowing one has been made dead in Christ comes in as a saving truth… For in the reckoning of one’s death in Christ own will is put to death… For own will will stand against righteousness at every opportunity, putting own will to death by the believing own will has been crucified with Christ frees one from being under the power of own will…Henceforth faith and to the degree of one’s faith will own will be set aside,,,, till the next time own will sees and opportunity to express itself and the reckoning or the believing one has been crucified with Christ once again stands contrary to own will… Henceforth the fight of faith is an on going fight, the fight to set own will aside, that the good and beneficial would be done for the believing soul to receive the blessing of God in all of one’s doing…
Be blessed in the receiving of the blessings of God in all of one’s doings, Not me
What needs to put down is not our will...our will comes from the inner man. What we need to to be strengthened in our will against the works of the outer man that contains the sin nature.
What part of us is supposed to reckon ourselves dead to this world? Our will. :)
We can't compare ourselves directly to Jesus in this. The will of Jesus was to remain with His disciples. But He knew that unless He left what was already good and just they could not be strengthened to do God's will. So then Jesus wasn't being selfish...He wanted what was good...to remain with those He loved. But sometimes for a higher purpose we need to let go of even the goodness we have from the Lord to fulfill the higher will of God. Our inner will just needs to be submitted to God's higher will. But we need to be strong in our will to be God's servants.
Back to us. Our problem is our obstinate SELF-will (allowing freedom to the outer man) which is actually a weak will in the part of us that counts...the inner man. We are usually very weak-willed in the inner man and we let our sin natures run rampant at times...that is until we get tired of sin, THEN, the inner man can trust the Lord and cry out for help from the Lord. Why more people don't do this is due to weakness in our will to be pleasing to God. That's why the fear of the Lord is required for an extra incentive to strengthen our resolve (will) to not be displeasing to God.
