Jesus turned water into wine in Cana, John 2:

9b the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
Later in Jerusalem:

23 while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.
Then, Jesus went back to Cana in John 4:

46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill.
Jesus healed him, Berean Literal Bible:

54 This is now again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.
i.e., 2nd sign occurring in Cana

Westcott and Hort:

MacLaren's Expositions:

the first miracle was wrought without intercession, as the outcome of Christ’s own determination that His hour for working it was come. The second miracle was drawn from Him by the imperfect faith and the agonising pleading of the father.

A miracle and a sign...hmmmmm.
A sign points/ advertises/reveals something.
There were expectations the Jews had of the Messiah ie, he would self authenticate by certain 'signs'

Miracle workers have been around in various location for millennia but it didn't make them THE Messiah.
I find it noteworthy that the descriptor is referred to as 'a sign'

Jesus isn't your "Messiah"?
