Do understand your encouraging others to seek Him and a relationship with Him. But don’t get your discouraging away from the word as if it is wrong to read it, yet you quote the word always. Get it is nothing more than dead words without the Spirit of God but if and when the Spirit breathes life into the Word...it speaks and corrects and builds. If we have the Spirit of God in us why would we not want to read and hear? Might sound like rambling but to maybe help make clearer (or maybe worse) what I’m trying to say. My husband and I met when I was fourteen. Been together since then. I’m fifty one now. That is a lot of years and we have been through a lot together. Yet, still, he gets frustrated sometimes with me saying I put words in his mouth and assume to much when our thoughts are different. He tells me “we do not think alike.” But I assume to often we do. From my past and experiences from childhood, and then his ...we do not think alike. If my husband wrote a book of his thoughts...I would want to read it and maybe I would project less of my own thoughts on him and put less of my own words in his mouth. And let him speak.
If I asked you to read the book of my husbands thoughts...not being intimate with him, not knowing my husband, or being in a relationship...doubtfully would his thoughts speak to you the same as it would to me. To me there would be great profit and interest and care as “our thoughts are different.” I would NOT be reading my husbands thoughts to get knowledge for no other reason but to stop putting words in his mouth by fully understanding what his thoughts are that are so different from my own. To understand him and help nurture the relationship out of confusion, not harm it.
Same as God says His thoughts are not my thoughts. That His thoughts are way higher. Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. [12] Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. [13] And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Same as I came to God and projected my own thoughts from the past on to Him, putting words into His mouth that were not His thoughts. But my own misconceived notions. For instance: “you are a male chauvinist who hates women. Why should I love or trust You?”
Honestly, it irks me that you condemn so easily anyone who seeks to know His thoughts and already decide what is in their heart and the motive behind it.
@Rita See thsi forum, it is filled with people who read the bible, as one put it, "I quote scripture therefore i am right", yet so man on here stand in complete opposition to God.
You know when you go to school, as a child, they teach you ABC, 123, than little words, cat sat rat, than adding subtraction, as you learn they expand. God is no different, when you understand this bit, than we will move on, as you understand He expands your teaching, as Jesus put it,
Joh_3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
and again
Mat_7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
if we do none of this we go no where, as Pia once told me, " He has being teaching me Genisis for 30 years and I still havnt got past chapter 2".
Remember the foolish virgins, if you are not learning from Him, you are not being filled, and time is too short, can only put it as was given to me 13 years or so ago.
This Man
One day you hear about this man who has traveled the world and done wonderful expolits. You get excited so you run down the road and buy a book written about his adventures. Then one day you see a new neighbour move in and you wonder who it may be. Soon you see him, he sees you over the fence and you recognize him and say,
Hi are you not the man that this book is all about ? And he says yes, would you like to come over for some tea and ill tell you all about it. But you go not just at the moment i have other things to do and besides i havnt finsihed the book.
So every day you say hi to your neighbour, and every day he invites you in and you turn him down. Then one day you dont see him and you shrug it off, After a few days of not seeing him you begin to wonder if hes gone on holidays or moved or something but still you are to busy. Then soon it gets the better of you and you go to his door, and as you get closer you hear cries of wonderment and excitement and laughter and you wonder what is going on. You knock on the door, and his voice says, Come on in “. And you look about you and there are children everwhere, there is so little space you have to stand.
So you ask , What is going on? , and he replies. Well I invited you in everyday but you were always to busy, but the children in the street all heard about me so they came and knocked on my door and asked if I would tell them all about my adventures and so here we are. If you are interested you can stay.
Then you look about you and see all the joy on the childrens faces and think of how lonely your life has being so you find a spot and sit down, Then he begins to speak and soon you are wondering , why did i wait so long this is so much more then what i read.
And so Jesus said.
(Mat 18:3) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
(Mat 7:7) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
(Mat 7:8) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
(Rev 3:20) Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
(Joh 10:7) Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
(Joh 10:8) All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
(Joh 10:9) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
So knock on his door, enter in and find the unspeakable joy that is Jesus.
God bless
David
