Malachi 1:3 does not refer to Esau as the person. God loved Esau and desired to have him maintain his faith in Him.

It refers to the division between the line of Esau and the line of Jacob. One generation line was moving away from the line of succession that resulted in Jesus Christ, and the other was tracing the genealogical line to David and on to Jesus.

Therefore it is incorrect to say that God hates one individual person and loves another, and therefore predestined the one to hell and the other to salvation. If Calvinists are quoting Malachi 1:3 to support their view of predestination, then they are basing their doctrine on a misquote of Scripture.

Romans 9:13. If Esau is referring to a nation, then God hates the all Edomites.

Sure God hates, and He hates ppl and also their sins. Ppl say God hates the sin but loves the sinner. That looks good on a bumper sticker, tee shirt, hat, key chain, &c., but its not biblical.

The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes; You hate all who do iniquity. You destroy those who speak falsehood;
The LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.
[Psalms 5:5-6]

There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.[Proverbs 6:16-19]

Right here are two small passages that show God not only hates the sin, but also hates the sinner. In Romans 9 we find vessels of wrath prepared for destruction. These are the ones He hates. These are the ones who He will pour out His wrath on on the day of judgment. If He does this to those He loves, then that would make Him a cruel and unjust God. What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be![Romans 9:14]

It is the sinner who gets cast headlong into hell, not just their sins.

God was making a division between the generation that was leading to David and on to the Messiah, and the other generation that wasn't. God doesn't hate individuals in the way people can hate people which Jesus recognised as murder at heart. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob and suffered the consequence of it. The prophecy to Rebecca was that "two nations are in your womb", this gives the clue that when the Scripture says "Jacob have I loved, and Esau have I hated (or loved less)" it is talking about the two nations that resulted from them. It is similar to Jesus saying that if we hate our mother and father when we can't be His disciple. It doesn't mean that we have hatred in our hearts for them, but that we love them less than Christ. Jesus loved His mother and made sure she was provided for as He died on the cross, but He loved her less than His heavenly Father whose will He came to fulfil.

Therefore isn't it so important that we share the gospel of Christ with as many people as possible in the hope that they will be rescued from an eternity in hell?

Yes, and God is immutable. Since God is just, not in order that he may be just, he hates sin, wickedness, and those who commit these things. Many walk around smug, self-assured, think little of their sin since they cannot see this truth, nor how wicked they truly are, nor can they fathom God possessing this attribute. This is why there is little fear of God, yet they've even turned that into mere "reverence."

Absolutely! This where ppl get Calvinists and Calvinism wrong. Calvinists are very mission minded. The hardshells came from a split in the SBC where the hardshells didn't think as much of missions as the mainstream SBC did. Look up the Blackrock Address.

I've heard that hated means loves less. Let's flip the switch and say love means to hate less. Then everything is up for grabs.
