What does John mean when he writes: 1J3:18-24

What does John mean, when it talks about if our hearts condemn us?

Please share your thoughts, on any of these verse if anything sticks out to you.

“My little children, may we not love in word nor in tongue, but in word and in truth! and in this we know that of the truth we are, and

before Him we shall assure our hearts, because if our heart may condemn — because greater is God than our heart, and He doth know all things.

Beloved, if our heart may not condemn us, we have boldness toward God, and whatever we may ask, we receive from Him, because His commands we keep,

and the things pleasing before Him we do, and this is His command, that we may believe in the name of

His Son Jesus Christ, and may love one another,

even as He did give command to us, and he who is keeping His commands, in Him he doth remain, and He in him; and

in this we know that He doth remain in us, from the Spirit that He gave us.”

@MatthewG Hebrews 1 says that the Lord Jesus at the Cross 'by Himself purged our sins'. If we then in faith trust in His work at the Cross for sinners, we can stand before Him by His grace with a clear conscience.

I don’t know that hymn.

I know though it’s Jesus who gives rest to the soul.

Most of the time when the Bible speaks of the heart, It is meaning the makeup of the individual not the blood pumping organ. Perhaps it was chosen as it is the main organ that sustains life, if the heart stops, one is considered dead. One who is rightly disposed Acts 13:48 will be those considered to have a good heart condition, what Jesus referred to as good soil. The seeds we plant, will thrive and grow in them. It is the figurative heart condition that makes or breaks us with Jehovah sir.
