no mention of baptism I see - we will be told next that one does not need to be baptised to be a Christian - twinc
what is the ritual baptism for the baptism of fire?
you could expand your def of baptism too if you want, not to diminish the one you are familiar with.
But really there are three baptisms, yes? Three spiritual ones

They also must confront their own prejudice against the doctrines
That may also be needed, even if I don't quite understand it.
when you go to another town and eat what they feed you, everything is going to be wrong there. the forks are going to be in the wrong place, and the pots are going to be in the wrong place. Nothing is going to be what you are accustomed to considering as "correct."

But you are supposed to stay in one place and eat what they feed you, which is saying that you are going to wish you could move when the going gets tough and your ego might be better served elsewhere, and yeck eating what they feed you what if it turns out they're Catholics lol or omg even worse like Pentecostals or something. They could even be Mormons. :)

It seems to me that we're loosing sight of what a Christian is.

Can anyone that believes in God call themselves a Christian?
Does one have to believe in Jesus?
Are there any specific doctrine one MUST believe in?
Are we supposed to behave in any particular way?
Are we supposed to do anything particular?

What makes a Christian be a Christian?
Jesus makes you a Christian, that's what his spirit does. We just take that leap of faith into the unknown then he can talk to our lonely and lost hearts.

Otherwise we are walking around in circles.

not at all, for who says so and by what authority - then maybe but not now - just as now one does not get saved by selling all that one has - twinc
Who says so?
THE NEW TESTAMENT.
If the following is incorrect, you can show how.

These are the steps to becoming a Christian:

1. You HEAR the word, or you find out somehow about Jesus.
Romans 10:17

2. You BELIEVE what you've heard. You TRUST in Jesus.
Acts 16:30-31

3. You REPENT and turn away from satan and turn TO GOD.
Mark 1:15

4. You are BAPTISED, as Jesus said to do, although you are already saved at this point.
Mark 16:16

btw notice at 6:66 who exactly then as now are the beasts who walk no more with Him for the same reason - twinc
What do you mean by this?
There will Always be those who decide to walk away from Jesus.
Do you mean that they don't like the words of life?

1. Yes. They may not understand what they are labeling themselves as, however.
2. The doctrine of the Trinity, the doctrine of the incarnation, the sum of the law, and the Resurrection of Christ are classic examples of orthodox doctrines.
3. Love perfectly
4. Worship God; serve neighbor.
I'd say there all good except for number 1.

Many believe in GOD but are not Christian.
Would you agree?

(I asked 1. Is anyone who believes in God a Christian?
and you answered YES.)

Both are right if we are able to understand their meanings. The OP really asked for a definition of a Christian and each answered apparently according to his own definition. For two believers to communicate, they must either have the same definitions or they each must understand the other guy's definition as well his own.
Great point Amadeus.
This is the Whole reason for this thread.
How could there be more than ONE meaning for a word????

I'd say that bb's definition of a Christian is NOT correct.
Some may THINK that's a Christian, but we know it's not.

(I'm not saying bb was wrong, he was just saying what many THINK---
THAT is wrong)

Just a thought...

A christian is someone who does this:

Mark 12
29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’This is the first commandment.
31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

This is good Job.
But Krishna taught the same concept and he wasn't Christian!
Any other thoughts?
