I dont know why you are focused on THE captivity when this phrase isnt found. The verse says "thou hast led captivity captive:". I never used the term either
A noun is a person, place, or thing.
So "captivity" used as a noun in Ephesians 4:8 is identifying a people — not describing an action or condition. It's naming who was led.
The verse could’ve have just as easily said “led My People captive” or led Old Testament believers captive”.
Captivity is a noun in the verse so the only unknown is who is captivity. My point is that captivity as a noun in the Bible always, without exception, refers to Old Testament believers.
