If Jesus was saying nobody else could be good (even if God works in them), then how do you explain these verses?
Matthew 5:45
“That ye may be the children of your Father which is in Heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on
the evil and on
the good, and sendeth rain on
the just and on
the unjust.”
Matthew 7:18-20
“A
good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither
can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
Matthew 12:33
“Either
make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by
his fruit.”
Matthew 12:35
“A
good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”
Matthew 25:21
“His lord said unto him, Well done,
thou good and faithful
servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
Luke 8:15
“But that on the
good ground are they, which in an honest and
good heart, having heard the word, keep
it, and bring forth fruit with patience.”
Luke 23:50 (NKJV)
“Now behold,
there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a
good and just man.”
John 5:29
“And shall come forth; they that have done
good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”
Acts of the Apostles 11:22-24
“Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth
Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. For
he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.”
Titus 1:7-8
“For
a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality,
a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;”
Titus 2:4-5
“
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home,
good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”
