Question for Discussion?

My first time experience anything hearing from the Bible by reading it, was Jonah, and also reading revelation at around the age of perhaps 8-9 years old.

Though before even at the age of 6ish perhaps there was a dream I had about going to school, but falling down into the ground and a fire had sprang up from in the darkness and there was a black looking devil smoke which felt as though it touched my face. Waking up had a red mark on my face, however it was simply from my hand which was fallen asleep upon.

Darkness and Light, was seen very early in life.

I’d read and heard countless verses over my life. But all seemed to be in another language, empty, as if it said nothing. My perception at the time was it sounded like a bunch of mumbo-gumbo to me. The first that said something was:
Job 38:25-27 Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; [26] To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; [27] To satisfy the desolate and waste ground ; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

it was mostly 27 which I had taped up on my wall. why it was significant to me is at the time feeling so broken and desolate ..I thought if God does that for desolate ground. A wilderness, where no man is, sending water to it …

at the time I had all these healing verses taped up on my wall that I had gotten from sites on Gods promise for healing, or preaching on healing. But that one from Job…it wasn’t one I’d gotten from others but still it was there. I seriously thought at the time …am I crazy that out of all the verses in the wall that one spoke the most.

Thank you for taking time to share. Was scripture collecting something you did as a young person? Did you ever attend church? Talk about something with another person at school growing up? You know with the scripture that you share it does remind me of a scripture in Revelation.

(Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the Bride say, Come; and he who is hearing -- let him say, Come; and he who is thirsting -- let him come; and he who is willing -- let him take the water of life freely.)

The first time I heard anything from the Bible about God was when I was a baby in the womb of my mother and heard the Bible being read aloud. It was a long time ago, now.

Wow how cool. This reminds me of how Elizabeth and John both had leaped in the presence of the Womb of Mary whom had Jesus with-in her. Perhaps there is something to a baby hearing the word of God in the womb, because John was allowed to be able to access God through the Holy Spirit because of Jesus in which perhaps John learned things from the Lord there being prepared to lead in the way for the Lord.

Amazing things to consider, thank you for sharing.

No. I was in my forties. circumstances had me posting things to remember on the wall. Eventually I took them down but haven’t forgotten. It is just now the word doesn’t sound so foreign any longer.

Did you ever attend church?
Multiple times.
Multiple churches.
Mostly Baptist. Some Pentecostal. I’ve never really been to other demonstrations like Catholic, Kingdom Hall, Mormon….my mother said we went to a Lutheran church when I was younger but I don’t remember it.

what about you? What church have you attended?

Multiple. Never really cared or liked it all that much though. The people are interesting that you may meet, though never made deep connections just was nice to pray, and remember their name and be thankful to see them alive when seeing them. One guy I met told me that he ended up working a an Astronauts tooth, Buzz Aldrin I believe was his name. Very interesting people out in the world in general with different backgrounds and histories, some good and some horrible.

When it comes to learning I like verse by verse bible studies with added context backed up from historical facts as close to the truth as people can get too.

same here.

again same, but mine would be verse by verse with added context backed up by every day life. I’m not good at the historical side. For me I learn by day to day of how insanely the word discloses so much about mankind thoughts, struggles, triumphs, discoveries…even the physiological side of it. For instance reading that right verse at the right time that is better than sitting in a shrinks office asking “why did I do that yesterday, or why did I think that way?” Then boom that right verse at the right time, helps explain maybe why and where it stemmed from.

I must have heard about God at a very early age because we had prayers in school morning and evening and I also got sent to Sunday School. The first time I heard about how Jesus loved me I must have been about 11 at a mission church's children's outreach. And my favourite story from that time was Naaman washing seven times in the Jordan.

I don't understand the question. About all the Bible talks about is God, isn't it?

As a child we had a bible in our house, a black covered one that nobody ever read. When I went to my secondary school I need a bible as part of my 'kit' so I was given a small KJV with pictures. I tried to read them but both were KJV and as boring as old dust. The only thing I remember was being made to write out 'Ur of the Chaldeans' 100 hundred times because i wasn't listening.
When I heard about Jesus and about the God of the OT from a children's evangelist now that was interesting and kick started me on my way to salvation. And then when, as a new Christian, I bought a Good News bible I was at last able to understand a lot of it.

I was in pre school . I remember the day well . Mama had picked us up and brought us home .
And sat us children down and told us all about heaven and hell , about CHRIST and GOD .
NOW ask me how come i often tell folks , I WASNT saved at that time . EVEN THOUGH i believed it .
For years and years , mark ,i walked according to the prince of this world , according to the darkness .
YET I could LIP the name of JESUS , i could tell folks they need to beleive and yet I was LOST .
WHOSE we are is WHOSE WE ARE . THANK GOD for the life saving and life CHANGING grace that would years later appear
and turned me from the false man i was to the true lamb i am today . MOST CHRISTAINS have no idea what i mean by this .
But then , MOST AINT christain . PEROID . and that is a fact that is well seen in their fruits .

revisiting because of this passage meaning so much…thought about it the other day
Job 38:25-27 Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; [26] To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man; [27] To satisfy the desolate and waste ground ; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
while reading Genesis 2:5-7 When no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not [yet] caused it to rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the ground, [6] But there went up a mist (fog, vapor) from the land and watered the whole surface of the ground- [7] Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.

only sharing because to me it still speaks of the power of God.
