Which major Christian church in the U.S. is closest to the truth?

I guess the JW's would say it is them seeing they use the language of 'being in the truth'.
Mormons on the other hand are sticking close to their own rails of fiction.
Pentecostals are taking a wide berth....buckets to collect money and strange languages is in vogue
Evangelicals are gunning for power....even if 'power' is their own construct.
Catholics have gone underground....let the boss do the thinking....it's just easier without responsibility.
Then there are a lot of floaters who think, feel and talk as if they are God's gift to men whose 'sacred' ideas range from eating the 'right' foods to the inability to hold an intelligent conversation or are so threatened by exposure deploying decoys becomes a speciality.
Finally there are those whose skin crawls when they are identified as Christians. Not because they are ashamed of Jesus but because of the baggage (in the minds of worldlings) the twisted label 'Christian' comes with.

I'd be interested to know that myself. I expect you'll hear a lot of "Well, no church is perfect"; which is just another way of saying none of them are close to the truth, but who cares.

Very, very few could be said to be teaching sound doctrine. God knows who are His. Pretty much all of the mainline churches fleece the lambs, all for their own riches and glorification with nice big buildings, pot luck dinners and so very much more of the world. IMHO the church is the world wrapped in churchy clothing. It is IMHO the great falling away, (from sound teaching) the apostacy...it has been happening for some time now...
"Come out of her". Then the man of sin is revealed...(I believe this is happening now but, not many will receive what is in front of their eyes and will be counted as false followers)
God help your people!

I couldn’t say by personal attendance of multiple Churches.

Have seen MEGA Televised Church Services… Majority of those, I would not Say LIE, but rather Avoid the Truth, and focus more-so on praising and making the Attendees feel good about themselves for filling a seat.

Did, years ago attend a Baptist Church, the Preacher Preached the Gospel, verified his Preaching with Scripture, was Spot-On.
It was usual for meals together (inside and outside of Church), pool parties, picnics, softball, camping, kids activities, hospital visits, helping the sick/ chores, cooking, mowing, cleaning…

All God Centered, and everyone keeping an eye and helpful hand on everyone’s kid.
The Preacher, wife, kids, lived in the community.

When he retired, the step in replacement, was off kilter and many were disappointed and ended up leaving.

We “church at home”, daily…

Glory to God,

So there isn't one, according to everyone here because everyone here believes that THEY themselves have the most complete understanding. Right? I'm guilty of that too, by the way.

My husband and I looked into a lot of churches. The closest to the truth is definitely Greek Orthodox by a large margin. But if that weren't a thing, I'd point to Pentecostalism.

Currently we don't have a denomination but that doesn't mean we never tried.

I was pleased with a Baptist Church I attended, and stated why.

I certainly do not have all Knowledge or Understanding… and WHY we continuously read, study and ASK God for His Understanding.

So no, I do not share “your guilt”.

In the 40's through the 70"s Baptists and Methodists were pretty similar. Each built upon the previous generation of Holy Spirit filled Christians and preachers. They were a dedicated bunch in the south. They went to church with no ac or heat. Cooked every Sunday for the after church crowd. Preachers did not make much and also had a job at a hardware and feed store. After the Baby Boomers grew up in church and the Revival of the 70's and 80's, we stuck to the reformed movement and Southern Baptists thrived and TV preachers galore. But after all the Baby boomer preachers started retiring and a different breed of preachers started in Church's and apparently don't like to preach about Hell anymore. Joel Osteen watered the gospel down and many followed him. Church's split over doctrine, liberal vs conservative, and social acceptance won out over sound doctrine.
