Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, 10:20 by the fresh and living way that he inaugurated for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh.

Why through the flesh? And what does Christ's flesh have to do with the curtain in the Temple?

May God bless your searching and answers!

Admittedly, if you hold wrong teaching this verse is a real thorn in the Christians side!

It is through Jesus that we have access to the mercy seat in heaven. Just as it was through the curtain that one had access to the mercy seat in the Mosaic temple.
Very true Ferris, why through his flesh?

The veil separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy place in the tabernacle. Only the High priest could enter into the Holy of Holies in the presence of God to make sacrifice.

But now through the Blood of Christ, His great sacrifice, that veil has been removed. The way to God has been opened for man through His sacrifice.

The idea is that in order to redeem man, Christ would have to die in the flesh to shed His blood for the sins of man, there was no other way. The sacrifice of His flesh removed that veil.

His flesh signifies the physical death that made all of this possible on the Cross. Man is no longer separated from God (the veil), we now have a High Priest/Mediator to intercede for us, having paid the price of sin for man, satisfying the Father.

Jesus who was/is God in the flesh concealed God, His humanity veiled His Deity. Scripture calls this a mystery. To see Jesus is to see God in human form. All the fulness of Deity was in Him as a man. Colossians 1:19; Colossians 2:9.

lol I think when we look at Jesus there are so many different aspects to consider- Its like looking at a Perfect brilliant diamond with so many different facets to the Gemstone. It just depends from which angle you want to view Him. I enjoyed reading from your vantage point brother :)

the 4 gospels are each written from a different vantage point as well and we can glean some insight into the different ways they viewed Jesus and glean insight from each gospel account. That is the great thing about studying the bible. One day you can read a passage and the next day glean something different from the same passage.

Jesus blood sacrifice removed the veil in the Temple spiritually and literally - it was torn. The Old Temple became obsolete from that moment on and at Pentecost, those who believed in Christ were spiritually transformed/ born again/ became a new creature with a special inner spiritual compartment (if you will), the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
Our Temple is likened to that Most Holy Place that was separated from all except the High Priest by a veil and on occasion the Priest, when sacrifices were offered, entered into it.
The diagram of this new creature is very similar to the design of the Old Temple:

sols_temple_blueprint.JPG

1. Jesus is our High Priest and Sacrificial lamb who enters into the our heats. His blood cleanses us of sin.
2. The veil is lifted when the Word enters and we believe.
3. The Holy of Holies (or Most Holy Place is where the Holy Spirit dwells at the time of regeneration. This is our spiritual compartment.
4. The spirit and soul are the heat of man.
5. The courtyard represents the body of man. Our soul and body (the flesh) is where sin dwells - separate from the Most Holy Place which is pure.Teh Table of Showbread contained the bread and wine that represents our fellowship (communion) with God - that we part-take of often.
6. The Lamp stand was always lit. It represents righteousness and since Jesus is the Light, we are able to see spiritually. The Church (the Body of Christ) is also a lamp stand that we are part of.
7. The Bronze laver was used for cleansing before entering the tabernacle to perform sacrifices. It represents the cleansing of the new believer, the baptism by water and or willingness to receive forgiveness and spiritual cleansing.
8. The Alter of incense represence our prayers to God.

Ephesians 2:19-22
Romans 8:9
Romans 8:16
If you can understand the application of this next passage, the Word penetrates and divides (lifts the veil) so that we can see.
"For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrew 4:12

Our spirit is pure, separate from our flesh and so when we die, our spirit (all that is good and pure about us) separates goes to be with Jesus.

Thanks Charlie24, a well put together answer!
Consider how the writer phrased this new access to God, i.e. "through the curtain, that is his flesh"
We all agree the curtain was removed but what of the Lord's body?
Clearly something was removed to provide this access!
Thoughts?

What you will find is rather the opposite!
Let's see if Charlie will find the Scriptural answer to this riddle as he is by far the closest to answering it thus far. Remember, the trinity is imported theology which will cloud your vision from what is truly being taught here.
By all means have a go!

- Remove curtain = access to God
- through his flesh = access to God

What changed in him?

You have given an answer to the "how" the curtain was removed - you just need to identify the "what"!

Very true Ferris, why through his flesh?

First of all : "life is in the BLOOD".

Eternal life is found in the shed blood of JESUS.

Next......" without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness"

And because Jesus is GOD......that is GOD's Blood being shed on the Cross, and God's blood is so eternally powerful that it forgives all the sin of every believer, beginning 2000 yrs ago, and into the future, and all the sin of the unbelievers, as well.
BUT, BUT.......this shed blood that is God's Sacrifice for our Sin, is not APPLIED TO YOU.. as your eternal forgiveness...= unless you give God your Faith in the God's Sacrifice for all your sin, who is Jesus THE Christ.

Have you yet, Reader?
= Now is the day of Salvation, if you will.

When we BELIEVE in Jesus, we are admitting with our FAITH that the Blood and Death of Jesus is God's Sacrifice for all our SIN.
When you "believe in Jesus", that is what you are BELIEVING.
God SEES that faith in your heart that instant you have it, and He gives you ETERNAL LIFE, Forgiveness of all sin and makes you the "righteousness of God, in Christ",
You instantly become a "new creation In Christ"........a Son/Daughter of God.....for Eternity.

You become "The TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT"., and you remain this, for as long as God LIVES, as He lives IN YOU to make certain = our Eternal Life.

Think on this.

The "vail" was "rent in half", as Jesus was slain on the Cross.

So, as Jesus's BODY was torn and slain, the veil was torn and taken away.

"Spiritual UNION with God", was lost by 1st Adam, and was restored by 2nd Adam.
The VEIL represents the loss of eternal relationship with the Most Holy, and the Cross is the restoration back into eternal relationship with the most Holy, ..regarding all who will BELIEVE In Jesus and be born again.
