Im about to show my ignorance here, but whoopi goldberg got suspended from her show for 2 weeks because of what she said about the holocaust. And the question that i had was, are jews a race or religion??
If someone said they were a hebrew, isnt that the same as being jewish?

Some years ago a saw a video of Jewish Orthodox children harassing christian Israelites. The things they said about Christian and Jesus are nothing short of horrible. I don’t think Whoopi did anything wrong, she is just not very educated on the subject. That she considers European jews to be white, isn’t too surprising. They are very white compared to her, many of them were whiter than some Spanish and Italian people.

She just doesn’t know that racism isn’t a narrow definition - an example of that was the civil war in Rwanda. Black people fighting black people, because of culture inheritance and what they considered race. Tutsis were taller, had lighter skin and a slender nose compared to the Hutus. They had cultural differences, different physical characteristics, religion and worked in different fields livestock and agriculture, but can one really say that it wasn’t a racist genocide?

Jews have many colors and it is a religion, but one can’t ignore the fact that Orthodox Jews considers one Jewish if ones mother is a Jew, regardless of which religion the child is raised in. The genetic line and family tree is incredibly important to some Jews. Since they see it as an inheritance offered to their ancestors and thereby them. @JohnPaul your arguments are just another form of participation in the culture war. Whoopi might be misguided she might even be racist and if she doesn’t have Jesus in her heart she certainly need it. We should not wish for other peoples demise, we should pray that they see the light. When I see people who are lost, it always reminds me of Paul’s story, how he used to persecute Christians and how God showed his greatness upon him.
Sinners make the best saints, because they know what they are saved from, they have seen God’s endless mercy and unshakable love, he is loyal.

Campt attributes it to the secrecy behind the sterilization program and the nature of the Afrika Schau. "It has to do with the status of the Afrika Schau as a spectacle. So that was set up as a visual spectacle that was supposed to get people to notice something as a display. In that way, it was really publicized in order to get people to think about," she said.

Recognition of the black experience in Nazi Germany

Afro-Germans were excluded from aspects of daily life in the Nazi era

According to Campt, the major difference between the experience of blacks and that of other groups in the Third Reich is the lack of a systematic Nazi extermination plan. Moreover, because of the small number of blacks living in Germany, few people are ready to recognize that there was even a population whose experience can be discussed.

Furthermore, there is little or no support in Germany for researchers working in this area. Unlike in the United States where research on minorities is well-funded due to the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, "black German scholars who have been doing this work for years don't necessarily get the recognition on the basis of qualifications, on the basis of whether or not they are working within a certain kind of academic scholarly structure for the study of minority cultures," Campt said.

All the same, it should be noted that even though the publication of Pommerin's book on the sterilization of the "Rhineland Bastards" did not generate much public interest at the time, it received some attention from a German politician. The member of the Social Democratic Party asked if he could obtain the names of the victims, so that they could be compensated.

Pommerin told Deutsche Welle that "(the politician) wanted to hand over 3,000 German marks ($2,190). I knew where they were living, but I didn't want to bother these people because I could tell that this was more a political interest. And I could see the TV cameras standing in front of the house in the village and money is handed over. And all of a sudden the sensation is great in the village - here is someone who had been sterilized."
