I'm not talking Harry Potter or Halloweentown either. (AKA make-believe witches) I'm talking about real-live devil worshipping witches. (And warlocks) They used to get burned and hanged,.. so what makes them less dangerous that that doesn't appear to happen today?

Again you might get some answers that you don't like in this thread.

Burning at the stake was never the right thing to do after the New Covenant was made. As it wasn't taught that we should burn others at the stake in the New Testament, but that we should forgive our enemies, love one another, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you, that was the New Testament way.

But I wouldn't necessarily call them less dangerous either.... Unfortunately witchcraft has probably became what I would say more popular today, partly due to the Churches staying between the four walls and not activating and using those Gifts of the Holy Spirit enough.

As @amadeus has being saying is that there have been too many social gatherings. The Church, the body of Christ, is meant to be very powerful spiritually and supernaturally, and if were all to let the full power of the Holy Spirit out of the four walls, nations can turn.

In my country, the US, we never had a State Church, but it was a Christian Country. It is not any longer. The laws of Moses were designed for a theocracy, or what we might call a Christian nation today. When the political State and the Church are married together you have the ideal and what God originally wanted. This is denied by many today, including Christians. But that is part of the result of compromise with an eroding Christian country. Gradually, the norm becomes a Secular State, rather than a Christian State.

So the original laws of Moses assumed every citizen of the State knew the Law, and could be held accountable within the norms of the society. If someone practiced witchcraft, it was an intentional act of sedition against the State and the citizenry. It was tantamount to an act of terror or revolution. And it was indeed intended to be punished by death, assuming all were truly cognizant of what God had required.

Today, those who practice witchcraft either did not come from a Christian family or came from one whose child came under the influence of other ungodly families. We wouldn't want to put someone to death if they don't know the truth of the Gospel. But it is sad that as our country becomes increasingly secularized, the religious values are compromised until just any religion may dominate and impose its own false standards of morality. This can't be pleasing to God.

They are hiding out in the mental health system in today's world.

This world is not of our Lord Jesus. The Father has given this present world and its kingdoms to Satan to rule over. We learn this in Luke 4 when the devil tempted our Lord Jesus, taking Him upon a high pinnacle and showing Him all the kingdoms of this world, and offering them to Jesus if He would bow to him. Revelation 11 on the 7th trumpet also reveals this, as on that final trumpet is when all the kingdoms of this world become those of The Father and His Christ.

Study all of your Bible, especially the controversial parts today's Churches won't cover. God reveals this about this present world time, and what relation Satan and his children play in it, and what our role is and what He expects of us.

If you'll really think about this world, nothing is perfect in it. Everyone thinks about eternity, but none are able to see it during this world. In Romans 8, Apostle Paul says that even the creation seeks a release from the bondage it is in during this present world. This world's wildness of nature and survival of the fittest is not... how God originally made His creation. This present world is setup to reveal Satan's falling nature and the rebellion he caused in the beginning. For this reason the world today is constantly in rebellion and chaos. It's because of him.

And each soul born into this world is to experience this present world's state of bondage to vanity so that we in our spirit will 'understand' our need for The Saviour Jesus Christ. Through suffering some realize this, others do not, as it takes an anvil to fall on those for them to get the Message. And for others, it will require Christ's sudden appearance coming in the clouds for them to get the Message.

The US used to have more of a moral foundation where the fringes of society remained hidden in a closet in shame; but since the nation has fallen so deep into sin, then witchcraft, homosexuality and all other forms of wickedness is out in the open and taught as normal. God has a message to such a nation.

Psalms 9
[17] The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

That may be for the wicked in packed cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc., but it certainly is not about the 'majority' of Americans in the U.S. The majority of Americans are still a God-fearing people. All one has to do is get out of the big cities to find that out. That is not only so in the U.S., it is so in the majority of nations in the world, and I've been to a lot of them. '

Isa 14:21
21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

In the beginning, God made everything very good [Gen 1:31] but He also gave men the ability to go against [disobey] God. Jesus did not eliminate this ability to disobey God. What He did was opened the closed Door to Life for anyone who would get on the highway of holiness and walk along it as God led and directed. The evil is still here, because men are still here. The new man of each of us needs to kill the old man of each of us completely. Are any of us still tempted? Do any of us still succumb to those temptations and actually sin? Going that way is where we will find witchcraft and death. 3000 years ago God gave Solomon these words:

"Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table." Prov 9:1-2

Who do we suppose our beasts are? Where do we suppose we may now obtain this "wisdom" that will kill our beasts? While our beasts live in any of us and any of us ever follow them, where are then the devils and witches? Where and what are the sins that beset us? Where should we be looking? What should we be seeing and doing?

"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Heb 12:1-2

In the secular materialist world they are seen as nonsense.

Witches have found a place in the new age movement. As a sort of self empowering self-help practice. By the time they realize what is happening they are in the grasp of demons.

There are many reasons why witchcraft and occultism are now more prevalent than ever. The primary reason is that the Western world has turned away from Bible truth, and believed the lies of Socialism and Political Correctness.

You don't think that "real witches" do witchy stuff on Halloween?? I think you know better.

People want power. Some turn to witchcraft, which is clearly forbidden in the Bible (OT AND NT), to have that power. But witches are tapping into the wrong power--the devil's power. This applies to bad witches and "good" witches.

I would think that most witches would say they don't "worship the devil," as you are saying. Unfortunately, they are deceived because they don't understand that their craft is of the devil. I pray that all witches would see the truth and repent of their demonic practices and trust Jesus as their Savior. For me, Halloween is a PRAY DAY!

Now, I think I'll just sit back and watch to see how you develop this thread, @April_Rose . This should be interesting.
