Today post will be based off my quiet time. Mark 1:17-18 struck me in an unusual way. It is verses that I would hear or read in the past, but it really ministered to me today.

Let me start from verse 16…

Mark 1:16-18

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake for they were fishermen.

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

At once they left their nets and followed him. (NIV)

Simon and Andrew could have easily said, “stranger danger,” or ignored Jesus like he was not even talking them. Simon and Andrew chose to drop their career to follow Jesus, being fishermen was how they made their earnings. A lot of us would rather work instead of following Jesus. Simon and Andrew saw the benefit of winning souls for the kingdom. In addition, another reason to follow Jesus.

Jesus tell us in Matthew 6:33 ‘But seek first his kingdom and righteousness.’ I am assuming this was Simon and Andrew real desire. To make the kingdom their priority instead of being fishermen.

I have noticed that a lot of us Christian’s do not follow Jesus, although we claim that we do. It is disheartening that we rather play church instead of being for the church, and most importantly Jesus.

  • you are afraid to go evangelism because of what people might say or that you will get ignored. A soul could have been won but you have lost it due to pride
  • missing church activities because of ‘work’ – never at Sunday service, midweek service or prayer meetings. No spiritual gain is taking place
We need to prioritise Jesus in our lives by following him and making his kingdom first. It is time to stop being self-centred, and allow Jesus to lead.

Jesus can easily say to you on the day of judgement ‘I never knew you. Away from me evildoers!’

I pray that is a wake - up call, God bless you all!
