“For many are called, but few are chosen”- (Matthew 22:14)

Every one of us is called by God for a specific purpose. We are all different, unique and gifted therefore God’s call in your life is not the same as the person next to you; it is specific and unique and only you can fulfil that. Either if its to be a leader in the church, a worshipper, a Sunday school teacher, a door keeper, or even just the person to be in the congregation. Don’t get me wrong God’s call isn’t limited to only in the church; you could be anything like a Police officer, Nurse, Engineer to a stay at home parent etc; and still be serving God according to His call.

The question is will you pick up? God is calling you pretty much every day not on your physical phone but on your spiritual one and the only way to answer it is to listen to it ringing but you have the choice to pick it up or let it go to voicemail.

The story of Jonah could give us an example; God called Jonah to go to a city called ‘Nineveh’ and call out against it because of a lot of sin that has been committed. But as soon as Jonah heard this he fled to ‘Tarshish’. Lets pause for a sec God told Jonah to go to ‘Nineveh’ but instead of doing that he fled to ‘Tarshish’ clearly he was running from God. (Jonah 1:1-3 ESV)

This is how some of us are; God calls us or even speaks to us and most of us instead of answering we run away like Jonah. But I believe its not by purpose I believes its either out of fear or ignorance.

Let’s resume so Jonah is now on a ship going to 'Tarshish' a place where God didn’t ask him to go. Jonah though he could get away from God, oh boy he was wrong (Psalm 139); This is God we are talking about. God caused a storm intending to threatened the ship Jonah was on to break. Everyone on the ship began to become afraid each of them crying to their god. They even throw things into the sea to try make the ship lighter. Hold on Where’s Jonah in all this madness. He was fast asleep. The Captain of the ship woke him up and asked him to call on his God. (Jonah 1:4-6 ESV)

To find out the cause of the storm everyone on the ship decided to cast lots (flipping coin like stones or pulling stick of various length) to determine who had caused God to bring a storm upon them. As they cast lots it all fell on Jonah; they asked Jonah various questions as to why, who he was and began to become afraid for Jonah had told them he was running away from what God told him to do (His calling). The only way they could calm the storm is to throw Jonah off the ship to where a giant fish would swallow him up for three days lol its in the bible I leave that for you to read. (Jonah 1:6-17 ESV)

Fast forwarding God spoke to Jonah asking him to go to ‘Nineveh’ in which Jonah went, and fulfilled God’s work and saw the people of Nineveh repent and God saw that they have turned from there evil ways and forgave them.(Jonah 3)

From the story of Jonah we learnt that there is no running from God and His call upon our lives will be carried out either way. But think about this, Jonah ran away and if God didn’t ask the second time to visit Nineveh; Jonah wouldn’t have witness the whole city changing their ways from committing evil and saving them from the punishment that God intended in carrying out.

But I need you to understand, if God calls you to a task, He will qualify you for the job. There is no reason for you to be afraid; some of you are probably saying to God “stop asking me I’m not qualified” But here’s the deal God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the call.

Note:

When God calls us to step out of our comfort zone, He is not calling us to be comfortable in the situation. He is calling us to be comfortable in Him despite the situations.

God is calling you, equipping you and preparing you according to His purpose.

This I leave with you trust God's calling it's OK to have questions and doubts that normal but is calling you because you are chosen.
