We all have a common enemy a Giant that we may have to face at some points in our lives; they could be a series of Doubts, Depression, Fears, Regrets, Pain, Heartbreaks, Financial distress, Struggles, people telling you that you can’t do it, Family issues at home; sometimes all in one big giant, Yeah not exactly the BFG (Big Friendly Giant).
These all are some sort of Giants that are purposed to stop us from reaching our Blessings, our full Potential and eat our Joy. But what can we do about this? How can we overcome this common enemy?
In the Bible there is a story about a “Young Shepard Boy” the youngest of eight brothers who has been anointed to be the Future King of Israel. This Shepard Boy whose name was David faced a Giant called Goliath that everyone in the Israel army couldn’t have the courage to face because Goliath was the Philistine’s champion and yes of course he was huge, Bear in mind that David wasn’t a part of the army at all he was there only to deliver some supplies as an errand boy (1 Samuel 17:17-18). Here’s where it got interesting; David was witnessing this giant for the first time so like all youngster he kept asking so many questions (1 Samuel 17:23-27). David’s eldest brother Eliab who was a part of the Israel army; he became angry and frustrated and took it out on David to which he responded “What have I done now?” (1 Samuel 17:28-30).
All this commotion was then repeated to the current King of Israel Saul, who asked for David to meet with him. Upon meeting with Saul, David said to him “Let no man’s heart fail because of him (Goliath the giant). Your servant (David himself) will go and fight with this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:32). Yes, King Saul denied it at first but David was insisting. David mentioned to the King that he was a Shepard Boy and when a Lion or a Bear came and took a lamb from the flock he went after them and fought with it and killed it and returned the lamb back to the flock. He said I will do the same against this Giant who has mocked and made the army of Israel afraid (1 Samuel 17:33-37).
David did also say to the King “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37). So King Saul was persuaded therefore allowing David to fight the giant. But the King was insisting that he doesn’t go into the battle empty handed so he clothed him with his Armor and strap his sword around him. But David who felt uncomfortable wearing the Armor because he wasn’t used to it took them off as well as the sword. But went before the Giant with a staff in his hand, five smooth stones that were in his pouch and a sling. Goliath who came with a full Armor a shield and a sword as well as a javelin took a glance and began to mock him because David was only young teen (1 Samuel 17:38-44).
But David responded “You come to me with a sword and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all this assembly may know that Lord saves not with swords or spears. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand” (1 Samuel 17:45-47). Yeah I know a very long battle cry but what happened next was astonishing.
As David and Goliath met at the battle line. David took a stone from his pouch and placed it in his sling and slung it, struck Goliath on his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground. David then took Goliath’s sword, killed him, and cut his head off (1 Samuel 17:48-51).
Because of David's victory over the Giant, the Israel army prevailed the Philistines and won that battle, we can establish that the giants we come across are big but they are not “Bigger” than God that is inside of you.
Like David we should have the courage and boldness and believe that God is for us and whatever giant we are facing in life will not prevail as long we know that the God we believe in is "Bigger" than an army of Giants. Come on were talking about God who created the whole universe; and because He loves us more than anything. He wants to see us prevail in life, conquer any challenges, overcome any obstacles. But like David we must walk up to our enemies (Giants) letting them know who in charge of the battle and declare that you have already won in Jesus Name.
I encourage those that may be confronted by a giant that you let them know who's boss that you will not stand down but take position and tell them or it that you have already WON in Jesus Name!!
